What is the best way to treat toddler nighttime fears?

DS1 is turning 3 next week and for the last 9 months, he was sleeping independently in his own room really well. He would wake between 0-2 times and after some water and tuck in, would fall back to sleep.

But in the last week, he screams in the night when we leave from the tuck in and keeps saying 'im scared'. Even at bedtime, Ive had to stand outside his door so he can fall asleep.

I refuse to cosleep with him again or have him come into our bed. We also have DS2 who is 1yrs of age and we cosleep.

But last night was rough: he woke at 1am and after toing and froing and tears and screams, he came into our bed. But it was uncomfortable as it was very squishy.

Im mad at myself for giving in but it was silly o clock and the baby kept waking up too. And today, he is just in the worst of moods.

He has a sound machine that had a nightlight plus the hallway light was on.
Does anyone have any tips? My mat leave finishes next month and Im absolutely bricking it, that this sleep malarkey will affect us all as a family

I don’t know but I’d love to know - same issue and identical story with 2.5 year old & I have a 5 week old!
