Dummy only for soothing baby when awake in the day?

I've weaned my DS off the dummy for night and naps and his sleep has improved dramatically. However during the day he fusses constantly and hasn't found his fingers or thumb to self soothe. I'm really tempted to let him have the dummy during the day when awake as I can't do anything and my nerves are shot with the constant fussing.

Has anyone done this? Can't find anything about it and will it inevitably lead to poor sleep again and him wanting the dummy? He's 7 months.

I'd just give him the dummy back day and night, wean him off when he's older and sleeps better. It's probably coincidence that he's sleeping better not the removal of the dummy.

The dummy is definitely the thing that made the difference with his sleep though so I'm worried he'll start needing it again if I give it to him in the day
