Is Barbie still an appropriate toy to buy?

My niece is 4yo and was looking for ideas for Xmas. She seems to have everything but haven’t noticed any Barbies with the exception of an Elsa (Frozen) one. I used to love mine as a kid but I know it has become a bit of a controversial toy over the years. Do little girls still play with them as much as what is the right age for them to be given as a gift?

My 4 and 6 year olds love Barbie so I think that's a perfect gift.

Both of mine love Barbie

If you want something a bit more right on, Lottie dolls are gorgeous. DD was never much into dolls but I got a lot of play value out of the tree house, and being a Londoner, I liked that the dolls were diverse.

The little wellies are to die for!

I liked the Walk in the Park and Muddy Puddles sets particularly.

My 5 year old has about 100 barbies. They are still very popular.

Dds have both the Lottie dolls and Barbies and both are played with a lot. Barbies are far less 'glam' than the first one I had when I was about 6 or so. She had plenty of make up, earings, and came in a white and purple sort of lace teddy-bodysuit type thing!

Nothing wrong with Barbie.

Barbie is fine.
She hasn't been "controversial" for years.
