9 month old not feeling well and jumping in sleep all day

Hi everyone,

My 9 month old is usually a pretty good sleeper however today he’s not really been himself. I’ve been trying to look online to find answers but can’t really tie everything together.

He usually has 2 naps in the day averaging about an hour each, sometimes a little longer. This morning he had 20 minutes (but woke a few times) and this afternoon had about 10 minutes (a bit longer in the end in my arms but took a lot of persuading!)

After his afternoon nap he had a high temperature and really rosy cheeks - the temperature was sorted with Calpol. He’s been whinging a lot today though, a lot more than usual.

Put him down at normal time of 7pm and been in 3 times already which isn’t normal and I noticed he’s jumping a lot in his sleep which sometimes frightens him.

Could this all be down to teeth? I feel like it’s an easy thing to attribute everything too but with him obviously not feeling great I wasn’t sure.

It definitely could all be down to teeth. It could also be a virus or ear ache or a virus and teeth. Either way, he's definitely not feeling great and I generally find nurofen much better for temperature control and pain relief than Calpol so I'd alternate with that (so one every four hours or so) when he wakes up.

Thank you for replying!!

I’ve been up a couple of times since and he seems really windy too so not sure if that could explain some of the jumping (it’s a horrible pain for anyone let alone a baby!)

Update: After zero sleep last night (and I’m talking zero!), my partner took him to the doctors this morning and it’s chicken pox, they’re quickly coming up as the day goes on!

At least we know what it is which is the main thing!

Oh rubbish!! At least you know what's going on. Hope he doesn't have it too badly 🤞
