8-weeks vaccinations - dreading it

That’s not an anti vax thread, I have all my vaccinations and obviously I’ll take my baby to get their 8 weeks vaccinations, but I’m really dreading it…my baby never had a fever or was unwell so far, and I’m so worried about how he and I will handle it. Can anyone ease my mind? Also, am I right that there is a staggered response to the 6-in-1 vaccine and baby might feel unwell at different times in the be next couple of weeks after the initial response?

My toddler is 2 now so difficult to remember however I felt the exact same dread! I vaguely remember having a quiet day or two afterwards and a very slightly grouchy baby but nothing bad.

A staggered response is unlikely. Most babies are off colour or more sleepy for a day or two afterwards.

You’ll be told to give your baby 2.5 mls of Calpol after the imms and two more times after that which will keep him comfortable and less feverish. Some babies are fine, others are more unsettled. It shouldn’t last too long. Just cuddle, feed and ride it out.

My dd had no issues with 8 or 12 weeks. Hoewer, she had fever after the 16 weeks vaccine.

My ds had fever with 8 weeks and no problems at all after 12 an 16.

Take Calpol with you and give it straight after. They might be moody and off milk for a day.

DD1 was unlucky and reacted at every point - although she did sleep well the night if her first injections which was amazing (allergy and reflux child) but DD2 didn’t react at all. It’s all luck of the draw.

I think it's the MMR that gives the staggered response, and that's not given in the 8, 12 or 16 week vaccinations. I completely get your dread though, my DC2 lost his appetite for several days after which was a bit stressful, but we got through it.

I have the final of the three rounds on Friday. Literally a little scream as the injection went in and then absolutely fine. Give calpol before :)

Make sure you know how to dispense Calpol first. I had no idea how to dispense Calpol until I was sat alone with a screaming baby in my lap who had just had her jabs. I forgot to shake the bottle and then baby spat most of it back up...

yes you are right! I remember the nurse saying something about one of them might show side effects 8-10 days after the vaccine so if baby has a slightly grumpy day not to worry. but I didn't notice it. DS is 2 now so hard to remember but it wasn't as bad as you make it out in your head. If anything I seem to remember DS slept a lot more than usual which was kind of nice 🤷

When DC1 had their first set, I sat up cuddling while they slept that night. It was something like a 5-6 hour sleep (iirc) which was out off character.
They were fine the next day and oh how I wish I'd taken the opportunity to sleep myself!!

DC2 didn't sleep like that. Just a bit grizzly for a day or two.

If you are breastfeeding then have a bag/bottle set up to express, just in case babe does have that long sleep. I was spraying milk with DC1 and was not prepared! My supply had never been that good so I did not expect it somehow!!
