Need Advise on handling academic biases
hello mommies,
I wanted to ask advice sana if you have experienced academic biases before? My teenage kid kasi is enrolled in one of the science hs in metro manila (will not mention it na lang). Lately she is frustrated kasi the standard is not being followed,in a way it looks like grades are being manipulated. In public schools there is what they call performance tasks, written works and periodical exams. She noticed that the performance tasks were not graded accordingly, high marks are still given even if the output is mediocre. Also, the teachers seem to favor those students who handle funds for them. Also there was one subject where the teacher disregarded one of the tasks to favor a student. Luckily, independent learner siya, so her learning process is not affected. However, lately things are worse than before. One of the teachers that she trust in terms of integrity betrayed her (it happened before the start of the SY). We decided to let the incident go as we know it will be useless to report it. But the effect on her was really bad, she was so frustrated it took time for her to get over the issue.
Now it is obvious that they favor students who are generous in terms of funds and also in the facilitation of funds for teachers. It was really frustrating for her, but she had no choice but to stay for it is her last year na.
Given this situation what can I do to keep her motivated in doing her best, even if she is strong-willed, being in that kind of environment is affecting her. It is also not an option for her to transfer in the middle of the SY. So what could be the best way kaya to keep her focused on learning even with extreme biases? I just want her to be the best version of herself. To be honest, it was a mistake to enroll her in that school, we thought it was a good school for her to really grow in terms of skills and learning, but in reality she was used to help her co-students be better but gaining nothing in return. So how can I help her survive the remaining months without her getting demotivated even more.
