i have never had a poo problem sorry, very sorry it must be horrid.

have you got bribes? can-do attitude? are you sure ds is ready?

discuss poo. what could avoid poo on carpet, what would help as incentive...

ruddynorah · 13/04/2008 21:08

going quite well here. dd's nearly 23 months. been potty training for 3 days now. she will wee in potty no problem if no knickers on. if knickers on she usually forgets and wees in them. she has done two poos but stood over the potty for them, wouldn't sit. so not bad

he is ready-hates being told what to do-maybe thats it. i will try chocolate tomorrow!!

ruddynorah · 13/04/2008 21:13

yes you must bribe, that's what's worked here. sweeties for wee wees. she cottoned on quich though, lets a bit of wee out, then gets a sweet, then hops back on to let a bit more wee out etc etc. she's now forgetting the sweet bit thankfully.

Washersaurus · 13/04/2008 21:19

I'm using the offer of 1 chocolate covered raisin for each wee in the potty with DS1. It works quite well, but only if he feels like he wants a chocolate treat - if not he wees in his pants , that is why he is still mostly wearing nappies.

fishie · 13/04/2008 21:22

up the reward washer. i wouldn't get out of my nappy for a raisin.

Washersaurus · 13/04/2008 21:27

I did wonder if I was being a bit tight . He actually seems happy with just the one raisin though!

We are making sloooow progress I suppose, I just need to make an effort to find some time to concentrate on it properly without leaving the house etc.

So how do I get him used to pulling his pants down and sitting on the potty instead of weeing in them (and on my sofa, and over DH's surround sound speakers, in my wardrobe...)?

Swifty, we are in the same boat as you.

Also just starting potty training with dd who is 2.8. We seem to have got the wees sorted but have got nowhere with the poos. We have just spent the entire day indoors (bored, bored bored too!!) in the hope that she would finally use the potty/toilet for a poo when at about 7pm she coiled one out into her pants despite being given numerous reminders. Just about avoided it going everywhere! She definitely knows the sensation of needing a poo because she asks for a nappy. We are using chocolate as bribery and have a present for her (a book left over from Chrsitmas)positioned up high on a shelf that she knows she will get when she does a poo on the potty/toilet.

I'm reluctant to take her out for fear of a poo accident. She is wearing pants and I'd rather not go down the 'pull-up' route as she just sees them as nappies.

I, too, would appreciate some advice/tips. Just how do you get the poos sorted?! Why is it so hard?

thanks!

fishie · 13/04/2008 21:31

go naked and full on with the bribes/whoops of joy. talk about it. discuss bribes. how men wee standing up etc.

do not pursue it if really not ready, going back into nappies is not good.

swiftyknickers · 13/04/2008 21:50

thanks everyone-he is ready just need to master the poo bit-have star chart and if he gets 20 stars he gets a mac (truck from cars film)-however think will now over a choc button too as motivation.mac must seem like a long way off to him

god potty training sucks!

Same thing here, just finished a week, and seem to have cracked the wees, well when we're in the house anyway, no successes out of the house so far, but poos are a different matter, every poo has been in knickers, thankfully they're quite firm atm! Will try this pm with bare bottom and see if that's any better. She's daft really, she clearly does not fully comprehend the crisp and chocolate festival which will ensue if she deigns to squeeze one out in to the potty!!! I reckon if they just manage ONE poo in potty we can make such a huge fuss that we'll be well on the way......just one poo.....not much to ask surely!
This staying in malarkey is wearing a little thin for us....... anyone else?
Could be worse, my friends dd just help in a poo for 4days shock

totalmisfit · 14/04/2008 11:30

thank god for this thread - have been potty training dd (just turned 2) for about a week now. have just started using chocolate buttons as bribes in the last 24 hours and not sure if it's working. was wondering if there was something weird about using choc as a reward for pooing but have read this thread and am very reassured now!

she's managed one or two wees on the potty each day but seems to time her poos for when she's wearing a nappy - ie nap time/ bedtime. wonder how we can encourage her to poo in the right place...

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 11:38

totalmisfit, I too was worried about the chocolate thing, but reckon it works, so what the hell. I've gone completely cold turkey with nappies in the day, and she is napping without one, and so far no problem at all. My dd does hers in knickers anyway though. Think earlier in this thread someone suggested bare bottoms, which is whaat I'm trying this afternoon. Good luck

MinkyBorage · 14/04/2008 11:38

I meaant does her poos in her knickers, wees seem to be largely sorted
