Baby struggling with wind - Rotavirus vaccine?

So my little boy had his 8 week vaccinations on Wednesday last week. Initially he was fine, no temperature, just very sleepy and wanted lots of cuddles.

Friday night he seemed to start with bad wind. He's wriggling and squirming a lot. I'm winding him as best I can but it's like he can't get it out! He used to sit for hours on my shoulder, now if I put him there to wind him his legs are kicking constantly.

He seems so uncomfortable and has been crying a lot more than usual. Before his vaccines he hardly ever cried.

He had started sleeping through the night but now we've gone back to being very noisy in the night, thrashing his legs around, but still seems to be asleep.

I've tried bicycle legs, gripe water and he's been on dentinox in his feeds for weeks.

I've read a lot about how the rotavirus vaccine has caused bad gas in other babies so assuming this is the case with my little one. His poos don't seem much different, as he has always been a little runny but he does seem more comfortable for about an hour after he has one.

How long should I expect this to go on for? Almost a week post jabs and he's still uncomfortable. It's breaking my heart 💔 I want my smiley happy baby back!

@NatiBarden97 came across your post as this is exactly my situation atm. My baby is day 4 since shots and can't sleep (day naps nor his night stretch) bc of gas. Did you see things get better / go back to normal?

Hi, it did get better but it took a good week or so after the first lot.

I was hoping because he'd reacted so badly the first time round that he would say through the 2nd dose (we were tempted to refuse the 2nd one). It did knock him for a couple of days, still quite upset and gassy but didn't last as long as the first time, maybe 3 or 4 days.

Thank God he doesn't have to have that one again!

Ah poor bub, glad you got through it
I think each day is getting a little better for us too (on day 4 now) but the no naps and up every two hours at night is killer! Feeling hopeful now thanks to your update 😊

Hi both

I could have written the exact same post! We are on day 6 post 8 week vaccine and possibly the worst day we have had with him (he was so quiet and happy before the vaccinations)…
Rgb2b2000 How long until your little one turned a corner after the 8 week vaccines and how did he cope with the second dose?

xx

Mine had this, gave probiotics and it sorted it almost immediately but

Blahblah34 · 25/09/2024 20:33

Not sure where that but came from, there is no but!

Lot01 · 25/09/2024 20:36

thank you @Blahblah34 - I have been using biogaia for some time with him, was hoping that might help! xx

NatiBarden97 · 26/09/2024 07:47

@Lot01 It will get better. My boy was upset and uncomfortable for quite a while but he gradually got back to his normal self.

I even took him to the doctor's because he was so off and they tried to tell me it was colic!

On the plus side, he absolutely sailed through the 16 week jabs, didn't affect him at all. He's now 7.5 months 😊
