DD says she doesn't want to get her hair cut, and when I told her the appointment was made as she said this morning she wanted it doing, she scribbled all over the first painting DS2 did with his Christmas paints.

I have sent her to the step and I am ashamed to say I smacked her. It will be the last time I do though.

I have decided DS2 will have his hair cut if she refuses and DH said she will have her hair cut another time instead of going out.

DS1 said he wouldn't go and is now being lovely looking after DS1 and really yelled at DD to stop hitting him (DS2)

Kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALways seemns that one is lovely when one is awful.

I don't think anyone was being mean, people were just giving advice.

3nab - I wasn't insinuating anything. I was commenting on the things that you put in your op which seemed to me that your dd was upset and so were you. I apologise if I got the wrong idea.
We have similar situations in our house and I was only trying to help by giving an idea of how I would view the situation (obviously not the only way but it works for us). If you thought it was unsuitable for your family then ignore. I have found other people telling me how they handle situations very helpful and sometimes have changed my perspective on things, where at one time I would get quite uptight about something, I am now more relaxed.
If I'm included in the people being mean then I have to say that wasn't my intention. I just thought that it was a shame that you seemed to be so upset over the appt. and wanted to tell you not to worry over something like a haircut.

Thank you Iklboo and juuule. I was feeling rather fragile and it upset me. I am fine now. It is hard when you know you are making a mess of being a mum, when someone points things out to you you know you shouldn't do/have done, even if unintentionally on their part.

To clarify, DD wanted her hair cut so I made the appointment as it needed doing. If she had refused to have it done once there, I was going to have DS2's hair cut. DD has been very difficult just lately and I had been reacting to that. As for the painting, it was stuck on the kitchen wall where we could all enjoy it.

3Nab, it wasn't cldear from your initial post that your DD had wanted her hair cut - which was why I asked if having it done was worth the hassle in the first place. Glad it all went smoothly.

3NAB · 29/03/2008 14:49

Oops. I thought you all knew that! Her hair looks fab and she likes it too.

Put chewing gum in it while she's asleep. Then she'll see it has to be cut. [evil]

Shitemum · 29/03/2008 14:51

oh, too late...

gigglewitch · 30/03/2008 21:47

all worked out well in the end then nab3?
hint - take some photo's, blu-tack them on the wall somewhere and keep reminding her how good she was / how much she likes her new hairdo, that way you can hopefully guarantee she will want to have it done again (when you decide she needs?)

FWIW, you sound like a great mum to me. The depression thing is a bugger, isnt it - it makes you see stuff the wrong colour IYSWIM.
keep on posting - have seen you around the boards and you've helped me out somewhere along the way.
