Hate the school run

Does anyone else absolutely hate the school run? It’s never got any better and I seriously just never want to do it again, I hate it so much everything about it. It’s not the parents or anything like that I just hate all aspects of it. Still a very long way to go till it’s over. Just wondered if anyone felt the same?

DS starts in September so I will wait and see!

Can anyone tell me, is it the same if they do wrap around? Surely no competing for a parking space and less small talk that way?

hazandduck · 09/01/2024 21:50

Yep I am one of those who hates it. I have lots of people I know there/old friends/acquaintances to chat with but that is my idea of hell! Having to make small talk urgh! Even when I’m reading a book with earphones in people don’t take the hint lol. It’s so tiring pretending to be cheery and smile at everyone. People always think I’m so bubbly but Im a miserable bitch really, please leave me aloooneee 😂

It was the one thing I absolutely hated about having small children.

@reddaisies at our wraparound we allow parents directly on-site into the staff car park, seconds from the door. There can be small talk with the staff but only if you want to really. ‘hi’ and ‘thanks’ is sufficient if that’s preferred

The parking is a shit show but I don't mind the rest.

DH does the morning school run and I'm very grateful for that. I'm not a morning person and am usually still in my PJs getting DC2 ready for toddler group when he leaves the house. I do pickups but DC1 does extracurriculars on 3 days so it's quiet at pickup time. I love that she runs out to greet me with a hug though.

It's only a 5 min walk from our house (we bought the house specifically to make school runs easier - would never have picked a house somewhere so far we'd have to drive).

I absolutely despise the schools run! I hate every part of it. I would say pick up is worse though.

I always liked it. Often went to park afterwards. If feeling sociable, chat to people, if not look at phone and studiously ignore everybody.

At ds' old school, I loved it. V small school, lovely parents and I made some good friends. Most of us were SAHPs, so we had the time to chat, pop in for a cup of tea etc. Then we moved, had to change schools and it's not the same at all. Both ds and I miss his old school very much.

I used to like it, but then I rarely drove there. One of the rare times I did, another parent ran into the back of me.
I used to chat mainly to one Grandad.

Another mother would sidle up and tell me all her woes.
At the end of the six years, I swear this woman didn't even know my name or a single thing about me.
It would have taken too long out of her monologue in the few minutes we had each day 😂
