Just discovered that ds1 has nits!!!! yuckkkkk!!!!
My friend mentioned that anothern friends son has just had them, I laughingly checked ds's hair only to find a brown crawly thing in there!!!!

I'm slightly freaked out.
been and got the mousse and the special comb and he's siting with it on his head as I type.

thought i'd better let his friends mum's know and called the friend who we think had it originally and she still didn't let on to me!!! just said there had been a case in school.quite annoyed about it- surely we should be sharing this kind of info???
mum said to look for whitish things on the hair.can't find any but have found 2 crawlies.
any advice greatfully recieved!!!!

Hairdressers & Barbers won't cut your hair etc if you have nits, as they can risk spreading them to others if they use a comb etc, even disinfecting your combs etc will not guarantee to remove them from the brushes/combs.
I would only trim his hair yourself until he's totally nit free, which can take ages.
Also, if your sons scalp is infected at all, any extra brushing & combing can further inflame his scalp, so be careful to see how his scalp looks.
Hoover the bedroom & boil wash bedding if possible, as that will kill them off if they have crawled off onto the bed somewhere.
Tea tree oil is a natural way to help repell them - I am using the Boots Tea Tree conditioner Headlice Removal kit & you can comb this through using the comb provided & leave it on the hair.
Smells quite nice I think, but may not be to everyones taste, but a bonus as you can just leave it on the hair.
Someone has also recommended rinsing the hair with white vinegar after shampooing, as this unglues the nit eggs off the hair, making it easier to remove them - I'm going to try this one, so will elt you know.
