Baby's feet turn white after sitting in highchair?

Hi,

I wondered if anyone's LO has the same thing? Baby had his heart listened to etc at his Dr checks and it's all been fine. But I've noticed a few times that his feet are completely white if sat in his highchair (ikea) for half an hour or so. This is just him eating and cleaning up afterwards, not excessive use. I've also noticed in the past that they do it when in footed sleepsuits sometimes but just thought maybe the foot part is too small.

I'm going to book a GP visit just to be sure but just wondering whilst I'm waiting if it's normal? Baby is 8.5months old now.

Ooh that's very odd. I can see why you are concerned. . Could it be due to the shape of the high hair it's squashing his legs a bit and reducing blood flow to his feet. Do they feel cold? Have you tried a different high chair? Certainly worth a mention to gp.

Ohh I'd be really worried about them too!

Are they cold?

Hoping someone comes along with help for you

Yes they are cold. I've tried touching and pinching them slightly and he seems to feel it.
The IKEA highchair is such a popular one though I'd of assumed this would be a known problem in its design which it doesn't seem to be..

Looks like he may suffer from raynaulds, I do and it's never caused me a huge amount of trouble, but it can be a symptom of other things so worth getting him checked out.

This is completely different, doesn't happen my child but happens to me when I'm sitting on sofa my feet don't touch the ground, so they dangling same way a child would be in a high chair and my feet would turn white and sometimes blue, doesn't happen when feet flat on ground

I think the IKEA highchair has no footrest so it is possible that the swinging legs & pressure on the back of the thigh is constricting blood flow to the feet.

try to not use the highchair for too long or look to buy one with a foot rest if the issue persists.

BertieBotts · 02/08/2023 21:55

People do say that the Ikea highchair having no footrest is an issue. I would say though I've used it for 2 kids and never had this problem. It does sound like it's worth getting checked out.

LittleBearPad · 02/08/2023 21:56

Put some socks on him

Yusay · 02/08/2023 21:59

Not normal. Hope it’s a problem with the chair.

qtime2 · 02/08/2023 22:26

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The footrest and dangling legs makes a lot of sense. Funnily enough I just added a footrest to it today, so whilst I'm waiting I can see if that makes a difference.

I’ve never noticed this with ours but we’ve got a third party foot rest. Like a PP said maybe the weight of his legs is cutting off a bit of circulation without one?

Tns26 · 08/04/2025 06:16

I know it’s been a couple of years but I’d love to hear what the result was from the OP? My daughter is 7 months old and I saw her feet like this today and it petrified me. Was it Raynauds?
