How does the 20% tax free childcare work

I'm eligible for the 20% tax free childcare, just wondering how it works when paying my childcare

If I wasn't eligible cost would be £135 per week, but minus 20% it's £108 per week, when I make the payment to my provider on the gov website do I just set my standing order up for £108 and then the gov top it up to £135

Maybe a silly question but just want to make sure I do it right

@Sanch1 Pretty much what I thought, thanks.

Do you know when the three month clock resets? Is it calendar or from when you first do it?

Yes it's based on when you first apply.

I transfer money in and it takes 2-3 hours I think I'm to show in the account. Though there's different ways to pay in. I do it by bacs

Found this thread and I wondered does it matter at what point you put the money in the gov account to be able to get the 20%? Or it does matter when it’s put in? My nursery sheet says to get the top up it must be paid in by a certain date which is 2 days before pay day but others have said this doesn’t matter

You have to put it in before the end of the reconfirmation window, as once that is over it's on to the next 3 month period.
If you put it in too early, that's fine as they just add the top up on as soon as there above date ticks over. (As long as you haven't already spent it)
