One bottom lateral incisor not come through-anyone else's baby had this?

Hello everyone! I made the mistake of googling and ended up reading various horror stories of the need for extensive dental work etc so come on here hopefully for some reassurance!

My baby is ten months old and his four middle top teeth have come through in the last month of so (the central incisors were first so he was a vampire baby for a bit!)

His central incisors at the bottom came through first in parallel when he was six months, followed by his left central incisor when he was eight months or so, but two months later he doesn't have a right one. I'm just wondering if people have experienced this and whether there's the potential it is just delayed or whether he could be missing a tooth?

Thank you x

All I'll say is he's 10 months, not 10 years. Some babies don't get any teeth until they're nearly 1 year, whereas some start getting them at 4 months. I think you're worrying over nothing to be honest.

I’m a bit confused as you keep saying central incisor when I think you mean lateral incisor at least some of the time. Which one is he missing? But he’s only 10 months. Google baby teeth eruption and you’ll get the typical range for each.

DD's bottom left lateral incisor (which is i think the one you mean? The one next to the two middle ones?) didn't come through until about 20months. I kept wondering and wondering when it would come - i took her to the dentist and the dentist wasn't worried. It just popped up recently.

She didn't get her first tooth until 12.5months and they have come through in a completely weird order so i think some babies just don't follow the standard pattern. Our dentist was happy to have a feel around her mouth and check for me.

He's only 10 months: i really don't think it's time to worry to yet. My son's third tooth was his left bottom lateral. Right bottom lateral was tooth #8

Sorry everyone! I should have re-read my post before posting!!!! I was trying to do it whilst with the baby!

So yes the one he's missing is one of his lateral incisors at the bottom. His teeth have come through in a funny order (top lateral before central ones hence the vampire baby) however my main worry is that the bottom lateral incisors haven't come through as a pair (which the rest have). I read it's rare for them to not come through as a pair and sometimes it can indicate a missing tooth which was my main worry x

@YorkshireTeaCup and @DragonbornMum thank you that's reassuring. How long was it before the matching bottom lateral incisor popped up? His left one came through months ago!!! X

Oh good question - i havent been keeping a note of when each tooth came but i think maybe something like 3 months? But DD also got her 1st molars before her bottom central incisors came. Very strange!

Thank you @YorkshireTeaCup that's really reassuring xxx

20 month old still rocking 3 bottom teeth. From what I’ve read it’s normal, just rare. We’re waiting to get her in a a dentist but Im not too worried/

OhcantthInkofaname · 13/04/2023 20:02

Wait a few months. Check with family to see if missing teeth is part of history. In my family the pre molar (secondary) can be missing.

He got all his incisors really close together (one a week for 8 weeks ish), so I believe there was something like 6-7 weeks between it. His first three were all pretty much at the same time.

He is now immune to teething pain - I noticed the other day that his back molars were through and I had no idea they were en route!

Thank you everyone! I'm reassured so mission of my post accomplished ❤️ x

My kids had no teeth at 10months 🙈 they were quite late with that.
Bit if youre worried maybe have a dentist look at it.

Sarahsooosooo1 · 22/05/2023 22:08

Hello, not sure if this is still active.‘I’ve been waiting 3 months for my littles ones bottom lateral incisor to come through! No sign of it either. Has your little ones popped up yet?

needsomefuninthesun · 23/05/2023 10:49

@Sarahsooosooo1 thank you for prompting me to return and update!!! I keep meaning to. So just in the last week or so it's popped up (I think around 4 months after the opposite side!) x interestingly out of the eight teeth he has this is the one that is causing him the most grief for sure so wondering if there's a reason that particular tooth has found it harder to cut through or something! X

Sarahsooosooo1 · 23/05/2023 11:02

Thank you! I think it’s been around 3 months my little one has been missing this tooth now x

Ladylou17 · 06/02/2024 13:33

Hi! Did your little ones come through? I’m similar with my DD just one lateral incisor for now

eczemamummy · 06/02/2024 18:40

@Ladylou17 yes it did!!!! All his others have come through symmetrically though! X

Ladylou17 · 06/02/2024 20:14

Ah that’s great! 😀 x

Sarahsooosooo1 · 07/02/2024 08:20

Mine never came through! All his other ones have though, just still missing this one

Ladylou17 · 07/02/2024 11:23

ah really. What did the dentist say?

Sarahsooosooo1 · 07/02/2024 15:00

Not much, just that it will probably never come through. I don’t want to give him X-rays really

Mamacaca · 24/04/2025 19:51

Hi, my 15month old has the same problem. It has been 6-8 months since the left bottom lateral incisor has cut through, but no sign of the right one still. Wondering if you LO’s did erupt eventually?

Ladylou17 · 25/04/2025 00:39

@Mamacaca yes my LO did eventually and the rest all erupted symmetrically
