Hi all, my son has just turned 4. Never had a dummy but has a muslin cloth since birth

Since about 9 months, he has sucked the muslin to go the sleep. He doesn’t have it in the day anymore but I don’t know where to start with nighttime, he is totally reliant on it

I would let him keep it, but what he does is he shoves loads and loads of the cloth into his mouth (about a 1/3 of the cloth) and it is now pushing his teeth forward. I suppose like a dummy would.

Dentist has also mentioned it needs removing.

How?!!!

Thanks xx

I'm so slow at typing I can now see this has already been suggested, still a good idea though!

Hmm there’s not something he is after toy wise atm but I’m sure I can ask and he will think of something 😂

Please don’t cut it - like PP have said the choking hazard is huge.
I like the idea of turning it into an outfit for a teddy or toy.

My DD was 2.5 when we got rid of dummy cold turkey instantly after seeing her put the whole thing in her mouth. Dummy fairy swapped for a toy of her choice but we had several weeks of hell. What helped in the end was me saying that she could earn a sticker for "no screaming, no crying, no whinging" at bedtime. When she filled a sticker chart she got a prize. She would go to bed chanting "no screaming, no crying no whinging" for weeks. Might be a useful back up idea if cold turkey doesn't work.

I know this is an old thread but what did you do in the end @xxxJess123xxx ? I’m having a similar problem!
