Student nurse - when are you applying for jobs and are you worried?

I finish my course in August - eek! I should qualify October and be on the register by November.

I know where I want to work but I think its unlikely I will get a job there. I am so worried about getting a job, competing against people who are seconded, and people who have had placements in areas I am applying for jobs in etc.

When will you start applying and how do you feel about it?

I qualify next year. Im very worried about jobs, Im mental health training though so it may be slightly different- ( my module leader has been trying to convince us that there will be so many 1000's of jobs when we qualify). Im trying to believe him, but the impression that I get on placement is that there are no jobs.

I'd be lying if I said it didnt worry me.

Apparently everyone who qualified in mental health in the last cohort got jobs within our local mental health trust so there is some hope.

I hear very mixed things about jobs at the moment in adult.

I know a student nurse who qualifies this year, she doesn't seem to worried, she will be a childrens nurse.

I also know a midwife who qualifies this year and she is crapping herself because there are simply no jobs for midwives at all.
