HELP NEEDED URGENTLY: DUMMIES

This afternoon we have taken dd's dummy off her. She is 2.6 years old and for the last week or so we have been telling her this will happen today.

We have promised her a toy in exchange and today we went to our local toy store, gave her free reign and agreed on a toy she wanted.

We have put her to bed 10 mins ago, tried to get her to throw the dummy into a bin BUT she was already in a state. She is now in her room crying for "dadda and doddy" .

She is really distressed which I expected tbh BUT what do I do.............? Dh is being snappy with me and wants to give in already BUT I know we can't. We have to continue.....

Advice please............................ tia x

DD had a dummy and a noukie (kind of furry handkerchief with a donkey's head). Poor old noukie was callously discarded when she stopped having her dummy. Think she was so certain in her mind that they were a double act. Noukdum we used to call them.
ds has clothie/dummy. Again, only really powerful when has both at the same time.
Good for you.

Our DS is 3.4 years and still has his dummy to go to sleep and we won't be taking it away any time soon. Our reasoning is:

  1. He doesn't have or want it during the day
  2. It hasn't affected his speech development at all
  3. It hasn't affected his teeth at all (checked regularly by a dentist)

We figure that because of this and as it gives him comfort and helps him settle why take it away? Of course if any of the above didn't apply we'd have taken it away already
