8 week old vax - odd behaviour

Hi All

Is it normal for my 8 week old to lose appetite and have a change to their cry/ more irritable after the 8 week vaccinations? Sad

I'm so upset as it's not like my lo to be like this. She's never cried like that before it's horrible.

I am tempted to call 111 if it continues. As far as I can tell no high temperature when I checked her.

@JulyDreams i honestly would try not to worry too much - I know it's easier said than done and I was the same as you worrying and crying most of the day myself just seeing him like that, just keep checking her temp, lots of cuddles and keep trying with feeds she will eventually pick up, if you want peace of mind though you could always ring 111 😊

Loveliest comment ever thank you so much! @Nat888 wish I could give you a hug.

Thank you @firsttimemomma93 ! Sorry it was difficult for you also.

I've noticed she doesn't have a temp yet which is good. I've given her the last dose the nurse told me to do which was 3 doses of calpol 2.5ml. So I'm worried now if she gets a fever I won't be able to give her anymore calpol? I probably am not making any sense!

@JulyDreams

Baby will be okay soon 24 to 48 hours not nice to watch them like that.
Maybe get yourself some kalms they're herbal if you are not breastfeeding, not sure if you can take them while feeding. X

firsttimemomma93 · 07/09/2022 23:16

@JulyDreams you are making sense don't worry! Like @Nat888 said it shows you are a good mum and you care!
With the temp, you've absolutely done the right thing keeping up with the calpol, as that will be whats prevented her getting the temp in the first place, I think my issue was he was sick after his first dose but I didn't dare risk giving him more so waited until the right time passed but he'd already gotten a temp by then, which only lasted a few hours before it started to come down again. Honestly you're doing a great job 👏

@allboysherebutme unfortunately I can't have them as BF but thank you. I have been having occasionally rescue remedy drops though!

One of mine was very upset for about a week afterwards.

Pollywoddles · 08/09/2022 09:17

Keep an eye on her temperature. We ended up in hospital after my DDs first vaccinations because her temperature went over 38 and she was very agitated. She only spiked the temperature after 24 hours.

Pollywoddles · 08/09/2022 09:19

Forgot to add that she was perfectly okay 48 hours after the vaccination but we had to stay on hospital for a further 48 hours until her test results came back.

wibblewobbleball · 08/09/2022 09:33

Just FYI that the "weird cry" could be that it's the first time you've heard your newborn do an "in pain / discomfort / don't feel well" cry as opposed to the standard hungry tired want a cuddle ones. Shocked me the first times!!

Nat888 · 08/09/2022 10:08

Hope your little one is OK this morning. We just had my little boys 12 week ones. I cried more than him! The pain cry is utterly heart breaking. He was ok after a cuddle.
Currently zonked out bless him x

firsttimemomma93 · 08/09/2022 10:57

@Nat888 glad your little boy is okay! Was it just 1 injection for the 12 week ones? My little boy has his on Monday and I'm not looking forward to it! X

@firsttimemomma93 it wasnt as bad this time. He screamed to high heaven but as soon as I gave him a cuddle he was fine

It was the same as the first lot so two and the one in the mouth again. The nurse said that this time the meningitis one (I think, she said it doesnt contain one thing the first lot do) isn't in there so the fever shouldn't go as high and only give calpol IF its high instead of just giving it as a precaution

firsttimemomma93 · 08/09/2022 12:07

@Nat888 thank you! phew that's good to hear! I'll try not to cry this time 😂 so you don't need to give calpol before the appointment?

Nat888 · 08/09/2022 12:22

No problem! @firsttimemomma93

She said no need to give it before just give it if he needs it. His dad held him for them because i was already crying and after them he immediately looked for me. As soon as i took him and cuddled him he stopped crying. It absolutely melted my heart. Daddy isn't happy he clearly has a favourite 😄

He had them at 8.20 and so far no fever. He slept for about 2 hours then woke up wanting a feed and to play. He is happy as anything on his play mat cooing away to himself!

Hope it all goes OK Monday for you ❤ it was definitely 100% easier than the first ones and he kinda forgot about it pretty quickly. Hopefully all the same for you - im sure it's worse for us than it is them! Xx

firsttimemomma93 · 08/09/2022 14:08

@Nat888 awww that is so lovely I bet it made you feel so good 🥰 mummy's boy! ❤️ I'm going to try that, dad can hold him this time and I will save the day with cuddles 🙊 I'm so glad your little boy is doing good after them and fingers crossed mines the same thank you ❤️ and yes definitely worse for us I cried more than him for sure 🤣x

spinachmonster · 09/09/2022 09:33

Really hope your baby is feeling better now. I definitely remember the 8 week jabs being by far the worst.
I also had anxiety after I had my first. Wish I'd got help for it looking back now. Having your first baby is a massive deal! Sounds like you're doing so well caring for her. Hope things get easier soon Flowers
