Making a thread for those who need to decompress.. Not a moany, negative thread.

LO is 4 years old, I'm a single working parent and today with the heat has just been absolutely horrendous.
She's such a handful and by the end of the day I just feel bruised and battered.

Today has been tough.
Sat on the sofa decompressing listening to her shout "mummy" for multiple things as I've put her down to bed.

I just want silence for the next 30 minutes.

Anyone else had a day like this?

I've had a week like that. Not a single parent, but been largely solo this week for various reasons, baby DD hates the heat and toddler DD hates me, so I am utterly exhausted.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/08/2022 19:22

Right. No, I haven't. But I'm your future!

My kids are 9 and 11 and I've barely seen them all day, have been lying in the garden reading while they did their own things.

This too will pass, and you'll be one of us lying in the garden with a book and a beer in a few years.

Solidarity 🙂🙂

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse my kids are 31 and 33 so my day has been fine! But.....I just want to say I love your message, gives hope to those parents with little ones! This too shall pass....

cornycorncorn · 13/08/2022 19:26

Yep I feel you. Exactly the same situation, except not working (teacher). Haven't had a second's break this holiday yet.

I find the constant 'what are we doing tomorrow/next?' Etc particularly wearing.

Solidarity. I find myself longing for September when at least I can go for a wee on my own.

I heart you too. Owner of 6yo and 4yo. Hot...

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/08/2022 19:28

Oh thank god that came over as intended, I worried after I posted that I just seemed like a dick 😆

JustLikeJasper · 13/08/2022 19:29

Yes! My nearly 4 year old would surely win a world record for the amount of times I've heard 'mummy' today.
Nothing is good enough all the toys but whatever I suggest we do is 'boring' or lasts approximately 30 seconds until he is 'bored' again.

I have thought about a time when i can do this almost hourly. I see light at the end of the tunnel from your post!

ToastofLandon · 13/08/2022 19:30

Yes. I’ve had a UTI for weeks that I’m just getting over and my 5 yo has been a terrorist all day long.

And now she’s complaining it hurts when she pees and I have no idea if she’s making it up because of my issues, or not.

It’s been once of those days I just want to live on my own because my anxiety and stress that I never seem to get under control despite so much trying, is consuming me completely today. Feel like a shit wife and a shit mum and just want to disappear.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/08/2022 19:31

@JustLikeJasper I honestly clung to posts like that when I had little ones. So now I'm passing it on!

tuesdayblues1 · 13/08/2022 19:31

I have 3 year old twins who as you can imagine are intense. They’re fast asleep now and I’m laid on the sofa after inhaling a magnum. I should be outside watering the plants or chilling and reading a book, doing something productive or some other shite but no I’m laid on the sofa watching the hit list and browning mumsnet.

bring on September when they get their 30 hours and start school nursery

Soproudoflionesses · 13/08/2022 19:33

My dd and l have sat down to watch a film after being swimming and out for lunch but she hasn't stopped asking fucking stupid questions the whole way through it!!

Not had 5 mins peace for ages!

Dh is out so thought we would have a girly night in but honestly she is going to bed as soon as the credits roll and l am opening a bottle of wine!

hentheeighth · 13/08/2022 19:34

I'll join you. Not single but our 21 month old has recently moved into a bed and has slept awfully all week, naturally so have we and all grumpy during the days. Already put her to bed twice this evening!

Very heartened by PPs saying that there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Hang in there OP 💐

SatelliteFish · 13/08/2022 19:36

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse thank you for that post & not just being a spoil sport who says “it doesn’t get easier is just gets different”

I have a 4yo and while today hasn’t actually been too bad, this time 2 weeks ago we were on holiday and I spent a couple of evenings in tears due to her behaviour / tantrums / feeling like a shit parent. So I totally understand.

100%. 3 year old who has channelled Satan all day. Had me in tears several times, just been aggressive, rude and won't listen to anything I say. He has his moments but usually a really lovely boy (but "strong willed" is the polite way to describe it I think)

He's now asleep an hour earlier than normal which means he'll be awake at 6.30 rather than 7.30 but I couldn't take another minute of it today. Defeated is an understatement Confused

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/08/2022 19:38

Oh it gets fucking easier! I haven't wiped anyone else's arse in years, for example. I no longer pair dozens of socks the size of thimbles. I don't even Hoover their bedrooms, I pay them to do it.

Trust me it gets better.

This pretty much exactly how I feel.. My daughter was literally Satan this evening also 🙈🙈

SophB82 · 13/08/2022 19:44

So hard at times isn't it @Decompressingmama3 ? I'm actually sure mine growled at me today too Shock

I'm gonna try switch off with a glass of wine and a take away and try to forget the horror of today! Hope you can do something to relax now too x

Decompressingmama3 · 13/08/2022 19:47

Waiting for a takeaway to be delivered as we speak and I have a large bar of galaxy chocolate that will be devoured as dessert also 😂.
So basically comfort eating 😂

Totally feel you! 4 and 6 year olds here and they are soooo grumpy and mean when it’s hot. The 4 year old hit the 6 year old so hard with a doll the doll broke yesterday. I cannot wait for this heat wave to end so we can get proper sleep and go back to just being a bit grumpy!

TheOpportuneMoment · 13/08/2022 19:54

My 3yo is recovering from a nasty bout of chicken pox at the same time as the baby (7mo) seems to be coming down with it. We've been housebound for a week, everyone is bored, frustrated, hot and uncomfortable! They're both now asleep but can guarantee that the baby will be up at least four times before morning. It's been a long day/week!

Twawmyarse · 13/08/2022 20:02

Another mum who can offer hope for the future here: dh is away (bliss!) and youngest dc's ages 10 & 14 and I have done sweet f.a. all week. Was feeling a bit guilty so asked them if they wanted to go out tomorrow but they both said "nah, it's too hot". I was SO relieved! They just do their own thing and then we've been watching a movie together some evenings, but it's largely revolved around sitting in the garden eating ice lollies. It's great.

And as hard as it is when they're little - honestly, it flies by so fast.
