Party in the heat - wwyd?

DS's 2nd birthday party planned for Sunday. Due to be held in the park (under trees). Weather forecast is showing 33 degrees, even in the shade. We've had grass fires around here previously. We have about 20 kids due to come and an entertainer booked. Would you go ahead, or cancel? One option would be to cancel and then just have, say, 3 kids at our house (we have a small north facing garden). Would that be awful?? Please advise as we are panicking!

(OP's partner here)
The BBC's now forecasting 36C although some other sources are still saying 33C

I’m not too sure 2 year olds probably won’t be having much fun in that heat we’re at a birthday in the park on Saturday 36 forecast here as well but the children are quite a bit older so I’m guessing it will still go ahead. Also people may cancel if they don’t think there children can handle the heat so that’s something to think about as well.

@Hm2020 tbh I don't mind if some cancel - it's a bigger group than we planned anyway!

If the party you are due to go to was cancelled due to the weather, but you heard on grapevine that a few friends still went to the birthday boys house and saw the entertainer, would you be pissed off?

Yes. I would think it was pretty rude.
Cancel completely or don't, rather than changing to a party for a special select few.

Or we could make it a bit later and do it at our house.. but it would be rammed!

I would go ahead. When booking outdoor events I’m usually crossing my fingers for nice sunny dry weather. It’s beautiful out at the moment. A party in the park sounds like just the thing. Maybe add water play and ice lollies.

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 11/08/2022 13:12

@HorribleHerstory we can't do water play and ice lollies as no way to transport water or keep ice lollies cold. There's currently a grass fire in another park very close by 😢

Darkness22 · 11/08/2022 13:14

Part of me thinks just have a rammed house and a gazebo in the garden. 2 hours of your life.

makingmiracles · 11/08/2022 13:17

Personally I’d cancel, but I’m no good in this weather. If dd had an invite I’d decline because sitting out even if under shade is horrendous, my kids are the same, they don’t tolerate heat well and get easily cranky, they wouldn’t enjoy it and would probably start to play up/act out and I’d have to take them home anyway.

I’d re arrange for another date or have everyone at yours later in the day/evening, don’t just invite a select few as that would be unfair.

Foxgloveleaf · 11/08/2022 13:20

What time is the party? Could you reschedule to morning before it gets very hot.

HSKAT · 11/08/2022 13:34

What time is it planned for?

Take plenty of ice pops, ice lollies, gazebo if possible for some shade.

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 11/08/2022 13:40

Planned for 3pm. Can't do the morning as the entertainer isn't free but could move it a bit later.

mondaytosunday · 11/08/2022 13:58

Unless you move it three hours later it's not going to be much cooler, and that's probably too late. You will have to provide loads of drinks though - for parents as well.

Lymregent · 11/08/2022 18:12

I would go ahead. People will know it will be hot. It's up to them if they come or not. Definitely don't change to a few at home, I think that's really rude.

TooFlippinHot · 11/08/2022 18:23

Looks like we're going to reschedule..
