so I want to nip in shop real quick, like for one item; or pay for fuel. I know I’ll only be a couple of minutes. Do you think it’s ok to leave them in car? They’re 4 and 5.

Can you see the car at all times?

4theanimals · 30/07/2022 00:24

Not from inside the shop, but I park right near the doors.

I certainly do when I pay for petrol. The shop, gawd, I dunno…

I didn’t like doing it at that age really. Felt very uneasy and was panicking the whole time so just preferred to take them in with me. It’s only a few years later and it feels totally different now

MolliciousIntent · 30/07/2022 00:27

I only do that at the petrol station if I can see the car the whole time. But my kids are younger.

Silverswirl · 30/07/2022 00:27

That was for petrol when parked on the forecourt btw. Never for a shop or supermarket

If you can't see them at all times then I wouldn't

SouperNoodle · 30/07/2022 00:33

When paying for petrol, yes as the car is near the door and they have huge windows so I don't take my eyes off them for a second (thank god for contactless card payments) but in a shop? Not at all.

Dinoteeth · 30/07/2022 00:39

Yes, but disable the alarm and lock the doors.
Petrol station yes, has to be safer than walking them across the fore Court.

I certainly wouldn't leave them while i went to supermarket but a very quick dash to grab one or two things from the corner shop I'd leave them.

I wouldn’t ever leave them to go in the supermarket; just a shop.
thankyou for all your thoughts btw

Mine are 4 and 7 and I do sometimes leave them in car (doors locked and motion sensor off) for a couple of minutes while to run into our newsagent. I only do it if I can see the car from the shop (aka parked right outside) and if i'm only getting a couple of things.

MintJulia · 30/07/2022 01:07

I did at petrol stations, but otherwise no, if it's out of sight even for a second.

I leave ds in the car now, but he's 14 and no sane carjacker/kidnapper would go there.

theniceunderstandingone · 30/07/2022 01:14

I only do these when it won't be busy so no long queues.
Mine are 10 and 2. I leave the 2 year old with my phone so she won't fuss for my 10 year old. Leg it in the shop. Mostly self checkout if available and leg it back
Feels like Supermarket Sweep 🤣
