Hey,

Long time lurker here but finally decided to post.

My son ( 4 years old) has suddenly become very clingy about leaving me and sometimes my husband and will say he will miss everything.

He has been fine all his life up until about February this year where he has started to say he doesn't want to go to nursery or any of his classes (swimming/football practice) or even staying with family members

He used to love going to nursery and used to run down the steps and straight in but now moans all morning and when it's time to leave cries all the way there and the teachers have to take him from me and his excuse of not wanting to go is that he will miss me and it will take too long. He will also say he will miss one of us and cry if we run in to Waitrose or a petrol station while he waits in the car with the other

Is this just a normal development stage? I thought it was at the start but now it's been going on for far too long I feel. He is fine when he is there and when he comes out and says he enjoys it afterwards but it's just the getting ready and going there that he cries at.

Even if only one of us can do something and we ask if he wants to go somewhere with only one of us he says he might miss whoever isn't going and starts to cry. He will also say he will miss silly things like a plate at a restaurant when it gets cleared up or a book we are taking back to the library. Also if he has to chose between two items (either clothes in the house to wear that day or a toy in a shop) he will say he can't decide and will miss the other thing.

This is my first child so I don't know if this is just a stage but It's driving me crazy.

Sorry for this being so long andThank you for any input.

Oh dear, that does sound stressful!

I don’t really have any advice to offer other than he sounds like a lovely, kind-hearted lad!
