DD1 who is 2 and 7 months has been in knickers for 7 days and has only had one accident so far. BUT It's been quite tough because I am constantly having to remind her to sit on the potty (every 90 min or so) and sometimes its a while before she does anything on it. She won't tell me she needs a wee either and i'll have to cajole her into going. however, i'm quite proud that she's only had one accident but that was when we were on the bus and she couldn't hold it in. I know this is a bad time to start tt because we are going to spain in less than two weeks but it was a last minute decision and I couldnt say no as i've not been on hols for 3 years and really needed a break.

Now what do i do when we are away? she couldnt hold it on the bus and it was a poo she did which was a big cleaning job when i got home. we're planning to do several day excursions and i don't know what to do because i can't spend my holiday next to the potty. I'm also worried she wont want to use a toilet in a strange place. i know she's ready though because she wanted to tt in the past and i was inconsistent and then she regressed badly. she hasn't worn a daytime nappy for a week and her nighttime ones are dry. what do i do when we are away? (at the moment i'm spending all my time in the living room with a potty nearby).

well when i was potty training my dd...it was every half an hour that i had to remind her or otherwise she forgets that she had the knickers on. She wore knickers in the house and to go to the shops but if it was travelling by car she had her pull ups on, or walking for a good long distance, she wore her pull ups and i had a travel potty with me which is brill! ( i still had to remind her the loo). Eventually a few weeks later i used to drive a 10 mins drive one way - total 20 mins without a nappy on but had the travel potty with me.

I think you need to practise getting her to tell you she wants to go. You can still remind her but if she says no, then don't make her sit on it.

Other than that pack a potty, and plenty of pants!

I think a few accidents are sometimes quite productive - makes them realise when is too late!

I would suggest taking a travel potty with you wherever you go and plonk her on it as you need to. Putting her in pull-ups may also haelp. But don't worry too much about any potential accidents - just enjoy your holiday!

We went on holiday a few weeks after starting to potty train dd1, all we did is take lots of knickers (no pull ups), travel potty and all went well. We did have accidents but it wasn't as bad as having to wash two lots of nappies all week (dd2 was/is in cloth nappies). Don't stress too much and just enjoy your holiday.

Being on holiday actually encouraged dd to start toilet training. She was still in nappies but changing stations seem to be few and far between in Majorca.
So we bought some 'special holiday pants'- pull ups! and she loved them. She also wanted to use the toilet and has continued to be dry ever since!

i've decied to buy a travel toilet seat which folds (seen one on amazon), and a travel potty, have bought a packet of pull ups just in case and lots of extra knickers.

a couple of times this week she said she didnt want to go then did it in her knickers! accidents not teaching her much. yet when i leave her alone to play, with a potty in sight, she will wee/poo in the potty off her own accord and then come and show it to me proudly!

?? I thought you said she'd only had one accident? I had one of those folding toilet seats for DS. Just make sure you don't leave it on the outbound plane, like I did! Actually two weeks is a long time in potty training and I think she will have progressed quite a bit by then.

sherazade · 17/01/2008 15:59

bozza, when i typed that first post, on tuesday, she had only one accident to date.
then i took the advice of 'isaidno' and didnt push her to use the potty. on that tuesday (after my first post) and yesterday (so both times this week, not last week) she had a couple of accidents, did it in her pants. however, this afternoon she has been herself again. so yes, its progressing quite quickly, despite ups and downs.
