Calpol overdose

I am freaking out. Like an utter moron I’ve just given Ds calpol straight after DH had given him some. His twin sister was screaming and we obviously communicate terribly as parents.

We both gave him 5mls. He has just turned 2 and is little for his age. Waiting for 111 to call back but I am freaking out and feeling like the worst mum.

a&e or wait for 111?

so sorry to hear about your daughter - no wonder you feel worried now.

So sorry about your daughter Flowers

Don't worry about the calpol. I ended up ringing the poisons line after my 2yr old pulled a chair over- climbed up on a kitchen surface and reached a 3/4full bottle of the stuff from inside s cupboard. (I was dealing with a hungry newborn and briefly distracted).

She drank it all. 😮

No danger - I was told-Apparently the bottles are small for a reason!

She did get the runs from the sugar substitute in it but was otherwise fine. (Me less so)

As you can see from above everyone suggested getting proper medical advice but in general a double dose of paracetamol isn't a dangerous overdose.

Infant calpol is 120mg per 5ml, six plus is 250mg per ml. So 7.5ml dose 375mg of paracetamol, compared to a suggested dose for her age of 180mg.

Four doses over 24 hours, is 720mg - has she had several earlier doses? And obviously don't give her anymore for a while.

Obviously always seek medical advice.
and never overdose on purpose.

But calpol doses are very, very conservative.
My neice had a dodgy heart and therefore could not tolerate a temperature. Her parents were told how much calpol per kg they could give her max. It was something like 2x or 3x the normal dose, and they could repeat that for 4 doses in 24 hours.

So, try not to panic when this happens.
