braun thermoscan is great, lots of good reviews on amazon. I It was one of those things I couldn't quite justify as they are quite expensive, but finally with 3 kids I did and wonder why I didn't before.

Dunno about digital forhead ones but the other forehead ones are pants, just kiss them in that case!

I have a braun (I think) ear one and its dead useful for those few occasions when your dcs are running a temp for a while, just so you can monitor.

But you need to establish a bit of a baseline, so for example, my dd registers a quite low temp generally so anything above 38/37.8 is high for her.

I think its useful so you can feel reassured that they are responding to calpol and not stoopid hot!!!! Like they can sometimes feel to your kiss.

we have an ear one. Braun I think.

May I mention two things?

If you are going to use one, take you little ones temperature when they are well so that you know what their normal temperature is and also to get them used to it. Otherwise they are feeling poorly you shove this weird pointed thing that they've never seen before in their ear which isn't very nice.

Don't get too hung up on temperatures. Treat the child, not the symptoms was one fo the best pieces of advise given to me when i was a first time mum. Ds and DD have both proved it to be correct. They can each be boiling hot but quite okay and likewise thay can have no temperature at all and be quite unwell.

thanks slur
do you have to use the cover everytime?
or just if different people use it ?
if i only use it on dd do i need to use a different cover everytime?

you get about 25 covers I think with the Braun one. I don't change it every time, just if it's got wax on it.

S1ur · 10/01/2008 23:17

You can also buy packets of covers from mothercare if you run out.

HIgh temp is a toughy because it really depends on other symptoms. I like haviong one around but I wouldn't use it as my only information.

They can be hot when fighting something off, or teething or all sorts.

Still good to have IMO,

Forehead normal ones I find a pain because they take a while to react and don't give as clear a body core temp (or so I think the ads say!) the ear one's easy and quick, worth it IMO.

Are they, you know, strictly necessary?
