My 24 month old has has a temperature since last night. It went up to 39.9 last night but came down through the night to 38.5ish where it hovered all day, until now where it’s back up to 39.6.

He hasn’t got any other symptoms apart from being super clingy and not so fussed for meals but happy with snacks.

We had covid 6 weeks ago so unlikely to be that but I am concerned about the post covid disease that can rarely happen to children!

Should I be taking him to a&e?

Children with fevers can have seizures from it. Don't listen to PP's telling you it's the bodies way of coping etc, it's dangerous.

Be careful for a febrile convulsion. My DS had 2 at a very young age and it's scary. Had to call an ambulance with the first. A&E always for a high temperature child

So his temp ended up hitting 40.1 at which point I called 111. By the time the out of hours GP had called it was around 3 AM and his temp had come down with Calpol so I left it. Went to the GP this morning and they said it’s likely a viral throat infection as it’s red. Got a spray to use and hopefully it passes! She did say she wouldn’t expect to see his temp go that high again now as it’s probably peaked.
