Toddler Duvet in Cotbed?

My DC2 is 22 months and absolutely obsessed with her older sibling’s bed, always wants to go in it and loves being tucked in. I was thinking of getting her a cot bed duvet (and maybe a pillow? not necessary I know) but I wasn’t sure what age would be safe to do that and after Googling it I now I have it in my head that she’s going to get tangled up and suffocate - please talk me down!

DC2 went into a full size single bed at 2.5 with single duvet and pillow and was absolutely fine. Because of space reasons DC2 will have to stay in the cot bed for longer. We’re not ready to take the sides off yet I think so is a duvet still safe? From what I’ve read you should tuck the duvet into the end of the mattress to stop them pulling it over their heads? My other concern is that even though she’s nearly 2 she’s only the size of a 1 year old (0.4th centile for height and weight) so does that mean it’d be better to wait till she’s bigger safety-wise?

Toddler duvets are safe for 12 months plus.

There’s no way for them to get dangerously tangled- the duvet just isn’t big enough.

I moved dc2 out of the sleeping bag and using a toddler duvet at 12 months as he kept tripping over the sleeping bag, and it was safer than waiting for him to fall and whack his face or head off the wooden sides of the cot.

Duvets and pillows are ok from age 1. The pillow should be quite flat and the duvet around 4.5tog. Or what about a quilted cover rather than a duvet?

Mine had pillow and quilt from 12m in a single bed.

It’s a super thin 4tog and the pillow is essentially nothing but he likes it. They sell it in Argos, I think it says from 18m iirc

A low tog duvet that's appropriate for the size of the bed is fine at that age. My just turned 2yo has had a duvet and pillow in her cotbed since she outgrew her sleeping bags at 18m. The duvet never been tucked in, and we still have the cot sides up. It's a cotbed size duvet from IKEA, and a toddler pillow.

Thanks all, I don’t know why I’m worried about it Blush

We use a weighted blanket toddler sized. He loves it. If you consider that they’ve slept in your double bed with a big duvet and been fine a little one won’t do any harm.

Toddler duvet is fine at that age.

Same as @TerribleCustomerCervix we went from a sleeping bag to no cover/v thin blanket (summer) for 2yo DS, and then duvet/pillow when it got cooler. Sides are still on the cot bed and I have no intention of taking them off unless he tries to climb out. I don’t tuck it in at the bottom but pin it down with a couple of soft toys, and only tuck it to armpit height.

DS had a toddler duvet in a cot bed from 13 months u til he was 3 and he moved into a bed.
I did tuck it in to the bottom of the bed but purely because he would kick his legs out and wake up cos he was chilly. I’ve decided to keep DD in her (stupid cheap off Facebook marketplace) sleeping bags for as long as she will tolerate.
