Would you complain to nursery about this?

2yo frequently comes home from nursery with a dirty nappy. Today was quite bad - she told me she needed a nappy change as soon as I put her in the pram and by the time I was able to change it (we live a 5 minute walk away) her trousers had to be changed too as it had leaked.

I appreciate she may not communicate as well with nursery staff as she does with me, and that they are probably pushed for time, but it’s quite annoying! Should I say something or is this normal?

A few times I’ve had to wait a while for the nursery staff to bring my son out and when they do come down they apologise for the delay and explain it was because they were just changing his nappy. So no I wouldn’t say that’s normal and I think you should absolutely speak to them about this.

You most certainly should complain, leaving a child in dirty nappy is not acceptable.

I would. Unless she pooed in the few minutes from being passed into your care then that is neglect of care.

Yep, complain. They should be making sure every child is changed and clean whether they'll be home in 5 mins or not.

Yes complain, that's not acceptable.

The one time I've picked DS up and he's had a dirty nappy, they've immediately taken him back in and changed him. I think it was very very recent based on the glee with which he ran into my arms shouting 'poo poo!'

This is completely unacceptable. My little girl gets her nappy changed before they send her home and sometimes she poos straight after. So they change it again! Sometimes they're a few minutes late handing her over because of this.

This also suggests they're not changing her enough in nursery during the time she is there.

You have a duty to your child to complain about this.

Okay, good to know it’s not normal! Thanks all

Yes, complain, changing a dirty nappy is basic care.

Bluemamma · 08/02/2022 17:07

Never happened with mine but if it happened once or twice I’d let it go… but in your case seems like it happened a good few time so definitely say something.

I agree not on. I’ve had my child crying their eyes out on more than one occasion because they’ve spotted me picking up but just pooed and taken for a nappy change! Not nice to see them crying but nursery should 100% be doing their nappies even if it’s pick up time! They don’t know how far away you live, you could be putting them in a car/pram for a 20/30 minute journey!
