Can’t seem to drop below 2 night feeds

DS is 8mo and BF. He feeds like clockwork at 11pm and 3am. He has 3 good meals a day plus 5 feeds. I’ve recently tried to drop the 3am feed by getting DH to resettle him but he is wide awake until I eventually go in and feed him. He doesn’t feed to sleep at bedtime so it’s not a sleep association for it, could it be he really still needs 2 bf a night at this age?

Both my ff and bf babies had at least 2 if not more night feeds at this age.

I found there was never clear guidance on this. In case useful though I did two feeds at this age and dropped to one around 12 months

Even I as a grown adult rarely go more than four hours at night without at least a glass of water.

What are the timings of his daytime feeds and meals?

With both kids I spent ages wondering whether (and how) to try and phase out the first or second night feed at this stage - and then they just dropped both and started sleeping through (or mostly - until 6am or so). 9 mths for one, 11 mths for the other.

Yes I would say it’s normal to need 2 night feeds at 8 months, they’re still so new to weaning. I didn’t drop to one night feed until 11 months I think. If you want to go to bed earlier than 11 you could offer a dream feed when you go to bed then he would hopefully just wake up once. 8 months is a notoriously terrible time for sleep so if he’s waking twice and easily settled I wouldn’t mess with it!

Oh yes, I have 4 children, all who were/are breastfed. All but 1 were still having 2 feeds at similar times at 8 months x

And yes I’m absolutely waiting for his sleep to go down the toilet any day now, we seemed to bypass the 4 month regression so really hoping for the same. I’m very lucky that he’s always been a “good” sleeper. My eldest was up hourly at this age and still wakes in the night now aged 4 so I’m counting my blessings this time.
