We were in my room and I was getting ready and my jewellery box was on top of drawer where I don’t think my boy can reach it I was looking for my clothes and went outside for a few second and I heard my jewerally box fall and it was all on the floor and he was coughing and now I am worried he might have taken something inside but I am not sure

Do I take him ae? Would they think I am stupid for thinking that?! I am so confused and scared he has an appiontment at hospital ae but I am not sure what to do? I am not sure if he took something in or just coughed I am panicking aswell ?! I don’t know what to do? If I take him ae tomorrow morning and tell them would they an X-ray to check ?

Call 111

dementedpixie · 02/02/2022 20:05

If they are small then they will likely just pass through

pastabest · 02/02/2022 20:06

do you have any missing earrings or earring backs?

He will probably be fine though even if he has swallowed one though. Keep an eye on his poo

Check through to see what is missing first of all, a single earring missing its pair will be easy to spot. If you think an earring has been swallowed then phone 111, but just a butterfly then let nature take its course. My dd swallowed a coin Blush and on their advice I just checked poo each day. A few days late the coin was passed.

YellowLemonz · 02/02/2022 20:11

Have you checked to see if anything is missing first?

SparkleSky · 02/02/2022 20:15

This happened when my eldest was 10 months we didn't know if it was swallowed or lost, the a & e had a special metal scanner they said it's often coins that get eaten. They did a chest xray as well and no earring found. They said it's worth getting checked in case it's gone into a lung or could pierce something on its way down.

NishaaS123 · 02/02/2022 20:16

I am not sure no earrings missing but maybe an earring stopper they used to have my watch batteries aswell although I threw them out I am not sure if by any chance I left them in there so I am just panicking and I don’t think my mind will be to ease until he doesn’t get an X-ray 😩😩

I'd phone 111, chances are he hasn't swallowed anything but you don't want to risk it.

SparkleSky · 02/02/2022 20:22

Watch batteries are really dangerous when swallowed and can be fatal- if you think that it's a possibility a battery has been swallowed you need to go to a&e straight away.

Good point. Skip the phone call just head over there.

Batteries are a different story. Take him to a&e

Op I replied on one of your other threads. I think it's unlikely that your son is swallowing all of these things, if he seems OK then I would keep an eye on him. Try not to panic.

Motnight · 02/02/2022 20:38

If you think that there is even the remotest chance that your baby has swallowed a battery you need to go to a and e now.

My dd works in a children's hospital and has some really harrowing tales of babies and toddlers swallowing batteries where their parents either haven't realised or thought that it wouldn't cause any harm.

Tablechairlight · 02/02/2022 21:39

Any chance even 0.001 percent a button battery has been swallowed go straight to A and E NOW do not bother with 111. They will X-ray.

Anyone else reading this throw out all your button batteries now.

moita · 03/02/2022 20:14

@Tablechairlight no good for us with babies with hearing aids 😕

But definitely go to a&e if you think he's swallowed one

Help!! My baby of 1 yr old might have swallowed the back piece of her earring. I had nit watched her for a second and I know the back piece was loose, but idk if it was screwed in or not, all I know is when I had looked for it she was silent and i had opened her mouth and she took the earring out, but didn't get the earring stopper back. What should I do. Please help I'm panicking.

Call 111, and then take the earrings out and pierce them when she's old enough to ask, take care of them and not swallow them. No baby needs earrings.

I think take her to A&E and explain what happened they might do a quick scan to check but if the earring stopper was the small one she most probably will poop it out but just get her checked out to me on the safe side!
