Low budget birthday ideas for 5 yo if staying home

Hi all,

It's my dd 5th birthday on Thursday, her brother woke up with chicken pox yesterday and hes covered today so we wont be going out anywhere.

Does anyone have ideas about what we could do at home to make the day special for her? Dont have alot of money to spend on it at the moment.

I thought maybe bake cakes and let her decorate them as she loves this.

Any suggestions would be greatly received xx

Have a disco? Turn the main lights off, put fairy lights or similar on. Bonus if they flash! Play cheesy songs loudly and dance around. You could add in a twist on party games e.g. musical statues where you shout what statue to be and no-one gets out.

Let her choose the food. Baking cakes is a good one. Mine also love mixing up the icing.

Maybe a treasure hunt where you write clues to find the next one e.g. where do we wash clothes? Mummy's favourite... At the end you could hide a present or a chocolate bar.

Definitely do the baking

Another idea is make a chocolate house using Kit Kats and bars of chocolate - google chocolate Christmas houses to get ideas
Pamper party? Do nails, hair, foot spa, massage
Toast oats marshmallows over a candle
Let her choose a movie or Tv show and cuddle down to watch it

Thank you ladies!! All fab ideas! We have a disco lightbulb so will definitely do that one! And I love the treasure hunt idea to.

Pamper party is good, she loves having her nails painted. Thanks for the ideas 🙂 xx

Could you make up beds in the living room to snuggle into for a movie? Would she enjoy a pamper? I borrowed foot spa and bought face masks for my 7yo's lockdown birthday.

We have a big sofa that folds into a sofa bed. So could do a movie night 🙂 xx

How old is her brother? Could you do an indoor 'camp' using sheets to make a den? Make smores outside or over candles, a bit of stargazing, try and get sparklers or glow sticks...

You just need loads of balloons according to my five year old to make it the best day ever

Can she zoom/FaceTime any friends or family? DD's birthday was in lock down last year so we got a few friends & relatives online to sing happy birthday & cut the cake

Her little brother is 2, he will be on day 3 of the chicken pox tomorrow.. the itchy day. Bless him he is covered from head to toe. Hoping dh can take her over to see her cousins for a bit so she gets to play x

That's a good idea. She could facetime some of her school friends. Shes missing them as she had chicken pox the week before xmas so missed an extra week of school.

Do a treasure hunt for her presents around the house with clues. We started doing Easter Egg type hunts for birthday presents for lockdown birthdays and have continued as they are so much fun.

Make a pass the parcel and play with the you and the kids plus at least on teddy each all sitting in a circle. You get to open on your turn and your teddy’s turn so all get lots of goes. Put sweets/chocs in each layer and two little gifts like pens or bubbles in the middle so both kids get one.

SmallestInTheClass · 29/12/2021 18:46

*one teddy each
