DS2 is 2 and a half, and communicates well. I have been asking him if he wants to start big boy pants, reading the books etc but he just tells me he wants his nappy, and no amount of bigging up ds1 going to the loo helps. The thing is, I have an ideal window coming up of 3 weeks of them being at home, no school runs etc and as dd is 8 months and crawling, I feel I can only achieve this if I am able to keep us all at home - has anyone had a similar constraint, and, despite what the books say, is it worth going for it?

He doesn't sound ready and if he isn't it could take months. If he is ready - he could take days. I would wait really.

DS was 2.11 and it was easy and quick.

A friend did her DS a few months earlier as she had a "window" like you and it took months in the end. She did Easter and wished she had waited till summer holidays. Maybe you should wait till Easter?!
