Your 3-6 yr olds: what time is bedtime and what time do they wake up

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/10/2021 18:26

My husband thinks I put our kids to bed too early, or rather they wake up too early. I personally don’t think it’s abnormal, to have young kids wake up early, and I prefer it to having them invade my evening.

So my soon to be 1 yr old and 4yr old go to bed between 7-7.30pm and are up usually between 6-6.30am (seldom 7am). It’s not unusual is it?

My 5 year old goes to bed around 7.30 most nights but sometimes 8. Up at 7.30 to 8am.

riotlady · 16/10/2021 18:29

Sounds normal to me, am assuming the 1yo naps during the day?

DD is 3 and asleep by 7.30, up by 6.30/7

HarrisMcCoo · 16/10/2021 18:31

4yo and 6yo are the youngest two in the family. They get bath at 6pm, stories, then usually asleep around 7pm.

Awake bright as buttons 6am😩

5yo is in bed at 8, wakes at around 7.30. I don't do early mornings!

RedMarauder · 16/10/2021 18:33

3 year old goes to bed between 7-8pm.

Wakes up anytime from 5.30am but normally 6.30am.

Can have a nap in the day but most days refuses to have one.

Jujujuly · 16/10/2021 18:33

1 and 3 year old here. 1 year old asleep by 7.30, 3 year old by 8, and they’re up 7/7.30 (so probs same total sleep as you, just shifted back slightly).

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/10/2021 18:34

DTs are 3y7m and go to bed around 7.15 and to sleep around 8 FML and DD1 is nearly 7 and we stop doing stories just after 8 and lights out before 8.30. All get up around 7am.

IWantT0BreakFree · 16/10/2021 18:35

5 yo goes to sleep around 7:30pm and wakes around 7am. Occasionally wakes half an hour earlier or later.

Classicblunder · 16/10/2021 18:35

Same here. I think a big bonus - which might sell your DH on it - is that you can put them to bed, get a babysitter and get out to do something (dinner/comedy/theatre). We have had babysitters put our kids to bed but it's easier not to have to

trilbydoll · 16/10/2021 18:37

My two are 6 and 8 and we find it difficult to get them to bed before 7.30. I suspect they are rarely asleep before 8.30 / 9.

Have to wake them up at 8am for school more often than not. If they are asleep by 8pm they wake up around 7.30.

This morning the 6yo slept until 9.30 - it's nearly half term and they are exhausted!

bluebellinthewood · 16/10/2021 18:38

Our 3 and 4 year old go to bed about 7.15-7.30 ish and usually get up about 6.50 am

Tried all sorts but that's just their normal getting up time

Stabgelt the little one always "sleeps in" at granddad ffs !

Simonjt · 16/10/2021 18:39

6 bed time is around 7:15, he wakes up at about 7:30

Eileen101 · 16/10/2021 18:40

My 3 year old is asleep between 6 and 6.30 if no nap, or 7 and 8 if he's had a nap in the day.

nc87651 · 16/10/2021 18:42

Bedtime 7-7.30pm

Awake 7.30-8am

2 DC, 3 and 2yrs.

Wagglerock · 16/10/2021 18:43

My nearly 4yo wakes up before 7am no matter what time he goes to sleep! Bedtime is 7.30pm and he's usually asleep by 7.45pm at the latest.

Wigglegiggle0520 · 16/10/2021 18:43

Not unusual at all OP.

TheAverageUser · 16/10/2021 18:43

Sounds right, my 2 and 4 year old go to bed 7pm-7:30pm and they wake up 6:30am-7am.

Liverbird77 · 16/10/2021 18:45

3 year old and 14 month old. Bed at 7, wake up between 6-6.30. Very rarely later.

Sparklehead · 16/10/2021 18:52

At that age, mine were all in bed by 7.30 at the latest. Up at 6 or 6.30. They are now 8, 10 and 12 and go to sleep anytime between 8.30 and 10pm. But, they are all still early risers, awake by 6.30, whatever time they’ve gone to sleep. I’m holding out for the teenage years for the chance of getting a lie in!

Keiki · 16/10/2021 18:53

2 year old in bed by 7.30 and asleep shortly after, 6 year old in bed by 7.45 and asleep shortly after. 6 year old awake by 6.30am at the latest, 2 year old between 6 and 7.30am depending on whether the previous day was nursery or not. Plus a nap of 1 hour for the 2 year old.

NavigatingAdolescence · 16/10/2021 18:55

At 3 DD would go to bed around 11pm and up around 10am

She started full time school just before 4 and the 8am wake up moved bedtime naturally (over a few weeks) to about 9pm.

At 6 she would be in bed around 8:45 and asleep by 9:30pm.

At 10 in bed at 9:15pm and asleep by 10pm.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 16/10/2021 18:56

My 4yr old and 2yr old go to bed between 7.15pm and 7.30pm. They are up between 6 and 6.30am

immersivereader · 16/10/2021 18:59

4 and 7 year old here. Weekends they are in bed by 7.30pm, up at 7am. Bit later in summer and during the week as little one unfortunately naps at daycare and so isn't tired till later.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/10/2021 19:00

4 and 6 yr olds.i aim for in bed by 7.30 but it's often closer to 8. Up by 7. I'd like to nail it down to 7.30, as you say its nice to have chikdcfree evening time.

The thing I'm struggling with, is the 6 yr old is awake a while after bedtime whereas 4 yr old is asleep within minutes usually, and 6 yr old awake earlier than 4yr old. But they share a room so can't really do separate bedtimes.

AegonT · 16/10/2021 19:01

Mu 6 year old is getting ready by 6pm. I'm bed by 7pm. She gets up at 6am as we need to for school and work. She will stay in her room and play quietly if we sleep later on weekends.
