Smelly baby in the morning

My baby is 11 months and every morning she really smells 🥴 Her nappy doesn't seem to have leaked but she smells and so do her clothes and sleep suit.

We use Tesco nappies and she has orange flavoured vitamins before bed. She sleeps thru so no nappy change over night.

I really don't know what it is. She seems happy and healthy otherwise.

Any ideas?

TIA x

Smells of nappy?

I'd be pretty honky if I'd peed all night tooGrin

Hose her down first thing.

Pavlova31 · 04/08/2021 09:59

If her nappy has not been changed owing to her being asleep i would think it was the odour of the overnight urine soaked into the nappy.

I wonder if there is vitamin B complex in the vitamins she has. It makes pee very yellow and stinks to high heaven

Give her the vitamins in the morning instead and see if it makes a difference.

Tesco changed their nappies a couple of years ago though and they did seem to get stinkier when full. I find Asda ones do too.

What kind of smell? In the nappy? Or her sweat?

BingBongToTheMoon · 04/08/2021 10:55

Definitely a mixture of vitamins at night and stinky nappies.
Just either bath baby in the morning or give a really good wash down.
I would also move the vits to morning.

Thanks all. It's a wee sort of smell but really strong, it doesn't smell like that the rest of the day.
I'll try your tips ☺️

Do you think giving her the vitamins in the morning will make her wee smell the rest of the day or is it the combo of overnight wee and vitamins?

Is she teething? My dc always had strong smelling urine when teething.

ShippingNews · 04/08/2021 11:49

Urine always seems to get very smelly overnight. I always gave my DD a bath first thing in the morning to get the smell off, and to make sure her skin wasn't affected by the ammonia in the urine.

This is interesting. There are B vitamins in this one. Wondering whether a switch to the NHS healthy start ones would be better as they seem to just have A, C and D. Shame I did a multi buy on the ones I've got!

@squirrelnutkins1 I'm sure it's the B complex. It smells like super strong wee and can make wee more yellow if the dose is high enough. Put some drops in a cup to see if it has the same whiff. Baby vitamins don't usually contain B but they are very useful.

squirrelnutkins1 · 05/08/2021 10:08

@Disneycharacter Yeah these ones do. I got the Boots one on 3 for 2 so I've got loads left but after this I think I'll get different ones.

I didn't give them her last night and she smells WAY better. I gave them her this morning and I've not notice too much of a smell so far.

Thank you wise ladies of Mumsnet. Mystery solved! It's been bothering me for a couple of months!!!!
