Red hair

Calling all red heads and parents of red heads...

My baby was born was bright red hair. He’s now 6 months and it’s fallen out and grown back in the same colour. Eyebrows and lashes were blonde but they now match his hair. His hair is so so bright, truly orange and glows fluorescent in the sunlight! My question is... does this shade of orange calm down, or if this is his colour does it stay for life? I ask as I’ve never seen children or adults with this colour and as we don’t know any redheads, I’m wondering if it’s similar to blondes and brunettes where the shade does change over time.

Curious to hear experiences!

@Simonthecatsservant It’s the same for us - no rude comments, so far, just true shock, especially from people who know us.

I notice red headed children and men everywhere now and I never have before. They always look gorgeous, but rarely this bright.

@Greenrubber This is probably the closest image I can find. It’s from pinterest so not sure if I’m allowed to post it and will need to remove it...

@peachescariad Gosh that is just awful. What part of the world are you in? Your poor son, but good to hear how he handles it.

My hair was bright red until I was about 8, then it gradually lightened to a strawberry blonde. As an adult others often describe me as blonde but there is a definite golden tone to it.

@Greenrubber Thinking about it, I would liken the colour to how I would imagine Greg Rutherford was as a child.

Know this isnt whatbyout asking but red/auburn/ ginger hair is stunning, end of!

I do tend to comment on a red head as I'm really really fond of it (my lovely late brother was one!). I'm just a boring mouse brown. Jealous much?!

Greenrubber · 28/05/2021 10:44

That colour is hard to call! I'm sure looking back at photos of me as a baby my hair was very similar but it could just be lack of hair making it look brighter

Mine went darker and thick but always looks brighter in the sun but that's true of all hair

The only down side I have found being ginger is the skin type that usually goes with it but I do know one girl who was born with red hair and does tan but I don't think that very common
I'm an 80's kid and I feel my freckles are where my t shirt would of cut off and my shorts I doubt I was ever given any sunscreen 🤦‍♀️

My cousins both had shocking red hair as kids. It calmed down at puberty, moreso in one than the other.

Simonthecatsservant · 28/05/2021 11:23

This is my little boys hair op. This is also the colour I “look” for. As you can see it’s bright ginger/orange.
When it’s sticking up like this dh calls it his bomb fire.

Peachescariad it made me sad to read that your adult son gets vile comments that must be hard. The imbeciles that spout abuse at him however probably have very few brain cells so I hope your son doesn’t take it to heart ! Flowers

That's exactly my ds's hair colour, though his is curly.

I'm dark-haired, but I burn easily and don't tan very much. Ds OTOH is slightly olive-skinned, tans easily (though not very dark) and has only once in his life had any sunburn. I'm not envious. OK, I am - very!

I'm not a redhead but DH is. His hair was really bright orangey red when he was a little boy, then it darkened in his teens to a more auburny colour (unless he got it cut very short, then it looked brighter). As he ages, it's slowly fading into a paler ginger and looking at his family, it'll end up fading to very pale gold then eventually pure white. Red hair is lovely, OP, but you're right about sunburn - DH jokes he can burn on a rainy day, and DC have inherited his skin though not his hair colour. We always had to slather them in factor 50 as soon as the weather got nice.
