How old would you say my little boy is by guessing from his handwriting.

@Flowerclock

I think older. My kids are 8 and 6. Their handwriting is awful despite lots of practice. They are both left handed too which I think does make it harder for them.
Yup.....fellow leftie here! Makes a big difference a lot of us are geniuses though.

@Vickyjane88

He's 6, he thinks he says he's struggling.
I'd say that's perfectly good for a 6 year old! Not amazing but it's legible and he's forming most of his letters correctly.
MonkeyPuddle · 21/05/2021 21:58

6 maybe. My almost 4 year old done at dorm letters or number and I’m not worried.

Sheesh, fat thumbs there. *doesn’t form

My 7 year olds it pretty much the same op. He is massively struggling. We're waiting for a dyslexia assessment

OppsUpsSide · 21/05/2021 22:14

He is attempting pre cursive from the looks of it and it would help if there were lines for him to write on.

BergamotMouse · 21/05/2021 22:15

It depends what we're looking at. The letter formation is similar to my reception age child. But she wouldn't be able to spell those words correctly. So if he wrote it himself I'd say he's doing fine, just some more handwriting practice needed.

Mine leant cursive writing from the start which I think has helped pen control.

You can get tracing boards which help with the muscle memory for letter formation.

Why is he worried? This is the issue that needs tacking rather than the handwriting

He's just said because he can't write properly and it's just too hard.
