Will my baby miss his home when we move?

Guess I’m just looking for reassurance, we are moving house soon, we have a 7 month old baby, going into furnished rented accommodation while we wait for our new house, so it will be very different surroundings, just worried about how it may affect my baby. He seems to love being at home, especially after we’ve come back from going out somewhere, almost excited to get back, always so happy and settled there and I’m feeling really mean by taking that away from him, am I just being silly to worry he will actually be sad and miss his home?!

No.

MamaWeasel · 30/04/2021 20:56

No. YOU are his home, and his blanket/teddy/pram/cot/whatever. You'll be taking familiar things with you, so he may be a bit confused for a day or two but he will soon settle.

Sunny1112 · 30/04/2021 20:56

He won’t have a clue 🙊
He knows home is his safe place he’ll soon adapt don’t worry.

@Sunny1112 @MamaWeasel, thank you, I was hoping to hear that, I feel a bit silly asking, it’s probably me who is going to miss my home 😕 just having a wobble moment worrying in general about it all I think

I recently moved twice, first DS was 7 months then 8 months. He didn't notice at all. First time we moved in with my parents so none of furniture around us and he slept in a travel cot with no problems. I was worried how he would cope but he adapted so well.

grisen · 30/04/2021 21:16

They won’t care. We moved with an 8 month old, had to buy all new furniture (including a new bed for him).
So you don’t have to worry about little one.

@grisen @LillyLeaf good to hear, thank you

Yes he will be fine, we moved when my daughter was 1 and I don’t think she even noticed 🤷🏻‍♀️

@MonicaGellerHyphenBing haha that made me smile!

Don’t feel silly Daffodil it’s a stressful time!

Hope all goes well!

underthewestway · 30/04/2021 21:34

Just to reiterate what everyone else has said, we moved from Australia to London, via 6 weeks in Thailand when my daughter was 11 months. Didn’t matter a jot to her. She just enjoyed being with us.

DancesWithDaffodils · 30/04/2021 21:37

No. We moved cou tries when DS2 was 4. He barely remembered the house we came back to 5 years later.
If the main care givers are with your baby, he will be just fine.

@Sunny1112 @underthewestway @DancesWithDaffodils 😊 thank you

Unlikely. I moved when DD was just over 1. Weirdly she recalls the colour of the living room walls to this day (without previously being told) but no other details.

mrscatmad31 · 30/04/2021 22:19

I completely get why you are worried bit it will honestly be fine, we moved when DD was 9 months and then again when she was 3 years old, both times she was absolutely fine

catwomanhatwoman · 30/04/2021 22:23

No. We moved when DS1 was 4 months and again at 9 months, was fine both times.

We moved when DS2 was 10months- fine.

We moved when DD was 2- totally fine.

SomeCatsLikeCheese · 30/04/2021 22:28

At that age I would say probably not, he’ll just be a bit unsettled for a few days.

If older, I’d say they would definitely notice. We moved when DC1 was almost two and it really unsettled him - we moved areas so new childminder and everything. It also completely disrupted his sleep and he started waking at night again.

My nephew has just moved at a slightly younger age and barely seemed to notice. So I’m sure some of it depends on the child!

Lou573 · 30/04/2021 22:30

No, my 5 year old can’t remember where we moved from last year apparently. They adapt super quick.
