Hello fellow mums!!

I recently found out by accident that my 14 year old daughter has been texting and calling a boy who is 18 years old and I don't know what to do about it.

I want to be a reliable and good parent and my gut tells me this boy is trying to exploit her but I don't want to be the uncool strict mom who doesn't let her experience anything.

Help????!!

it doesn't scream out this is dodgy straight away

It does. Have you any experience in safeguarding?

Ilovemaisie · 12/01/2021 16:45

No I don't have experience in safeguarding but I know some 18 year old boys and I know some 14 year old girls and the fact they - on occasion - might text or call each other is seriously not a big issue - that's going by what the OP said. Obviously if we had more information about who the 18 year old is and how they met - but the OP hasn't given us that.

Sorry @Ilovemaisie my original post was after a long day at work. I meant that it's most likely to be a sexual relationship than a platonic relationship. Therefore this would be a red flag safeguarding issue. The crime would be if they was to become sexually involved, she is well below the age of consent and she is (probably) much less mature. The friendship/relationship shouldn't be allowed to continue.
