Front sleeping for 6 month old? She hasn’t slept this well in months

Hi, I have a 6 month old girl who was an amazing sleeper when she was born, would sleep through the night at a couple weeks, but ever since she turned 2 months, her sleep hasn’t been the best.

She’s been able to roll since about 3 months, held her head up after 2 weeks, and had been able to sit unaided since 4 months.

She hasn’t got great sleeping habits, needs to be fed to sleep, difficult to put down etc. However earlier I fed her to sleep in my bed as usual and she rolled over...and stayed asleep? She turned her head to the side and didn’t wake up, then transferred her to her cot on her front and has been asleep since.

Is this safe? Is it okay to put her down on her stomach to sleep? She hasn’t slept this well in months, If not then I won’t do it again, I’m young so I cope with the lack of sleep quite well lol. Blush

You shouldn't put them down on their stomach, but if they roll onto it you don't have to roll them over IYSWIM.

Thank you for your reply! Do you know what the difference is between placing them and them going there themselves? I’ll remember that though. That’s the first time she’s done it while asleep.

I'm not sure but it's what I was advised when my LO did this

All my kids slept on the front. The baby stage was bliss because of this reason. A midwife said it was fine and pointed out all the sleeping babies on their fronts on packs of nappies. Things have changed though and they say it is not safe but it definitely worked for me and mine .

If your baby is able to roll herself then she can sleep in whatever position she wants too. She needs to be put down on her back though.

The Back To Sleep campaign said that all babies need to be put to sleep on their backs. It reduced SIDS rates by about 80%.

Thank you all for your replies!
She slept so well last night, I’ll just hope she keeps rolling on her front on her own!
I won’t be placing her on her front to sleep, she slept better but I’ll be awake all night watching her breathe and it’s not worth the risk. Thanks again!
