Hi all

My 8 week old has been EBF and I give formula every now and then but lately I have been giving her one bottle of formula a night as I want to transition her over to formula. When she EBF she always had runny poos which my HV said is normal however since she's been on formula it's still runny but explosive!

Is she not getting on with formula? I am vegan and part of the reason of putting her onto formula is so she gets used to dairy

I've attached a pic and would love to know if anyone else's babies poo also looks like this or if you think it doesn't look normal. As you can see when she poos her bum is wet and the poo gets soaked straight into the nappy

Thanks!

I think that as long as there's no mucus, it should be fine Smile

There's no need to use formula to get her used to dairy though. If you want to use formula or stop BFing, that's fine but she doesn't need introducing to dairy at this age. I'm DF and have BF both of mine without dairy being a problem Smile

From memory breast milk is more constipating than formula, and not unusual to see change in consistency when you switch. Both my DDs certainly had poos like that. Do seek advice if you remain concerned though,

espressoontap · 10/12/2020 20:24

No, breast milk is a natural laxative.

That looks normal OP, I'd ask MN to remove the pic tho as it's her bottom and you can never be too careful.

I am feeding my 11 week old and I'm dairy free as she has CMPA - as did my son and I fed him for 18 months. He's now 4 and slowly showing signs of tolerating dairy.

I found that when my EBF child was given formula his poo was thicker, is she weeing ok?

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/12/2020 20:25

Looks normal. That is the age too where poo can get more explosive and even end up going up their backs. Formula will make the poo smell different from EBF poo though so don’t worry if that happens.

God I don't miss those up the back poos Blush

laudemio · 10/12/2020 20:27

Looks fine to me.

Hah me either! I remember a few epic poos where it went so far up their back, it got into their hair. Nothing for it at that point but to run the baby a bath and wash them head to toe.

Totally normal

LH1987 · 10/12/2020 20:39

Sadly looks totally normal and familiar to me 😂

midnightstar66 · 10/12/2020 20:45

Looks very normal (although what is normal, I've seen all sorts) the normal baby poo spectrum is huge
