Hi

History of four day soaring fever, saw gp who diagnosed virus and did covid test as a precaution - awaiting results.

It’s now been 24 hours since her last fever but she’s so so unsettled, we’ve literally been up most of the night with her. She played all day no problem! She does still have a very tight chesty cough but again was not tearful with it all day. Gp didn’t mention a chest infection. She has had croup and bronchiolitis in the past.

Any advice welcome, I’m so tired. Keep on with the calpol? I’ve laid off as she had four days of back to back nurofen and calpol and her tummy was in bits.

X

That sounds exactly like what my DD had last month. 4 days of fever, extremely unsettled at night (but was oddly fine during the day), and a horrible cough. Unfortunately the cough is still there (we've had a second negative Covid test recently, so it's not that), and she's had recurrent colds since, but she's otherwise fine. GP checked DD over, and there's nothing in her chest. It's all congestion in her upper respiratory system.

I can't really speak as to whether you should keep up with the paracetamol/Nurofen. DD violently refuses all oral medication, so the GP has prescribed her some paracetamol suppositories. Might be worth asking about if your DD's tummy is so agitated. It's not pleasant for DD when they're being inserted, but a few seconds of crying is quickly comforted away.

There is a possibility that it's now something else causing your DD to be unsettled. Teething is usually the culprit, but there's also growth/development spurts that will happen whether they're ill or not.

Good luck OP, it can't and won't be forever. ❤️
