no. my son walked home by himself from year 5. no one in year 6 had parents picking them up unless they had younger siblings.

felineflutter · 23/09/2020 18:04

No my YR4 DC walks to school carpark.

felineflutter · 23/09/2020 18:05

Yes from YR5 normal to walk home. YR4 children can leave classroom by themselves.

My Y6 DS walks to and from school by himself. I leave 45 minutes earlier than him in the morning and we get home at about the same time.

VirginiaWolverine · 23/09/2020 18:08

Mine walks home.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/09/2020 18:10

Majority of yr5&6 leave school themselves. Some find parent elsewhere. Some just go home.

Dementedswan · 23/09/2020 18:11

No, he walks to and from school himself.

loutypips · 23/09/2020 18:11

Yes.

superram · 23/09/2020 18:12

No, they walked home.

QueenofAsgard · 23/09/2020 18:12

I did. Only about a third of the class walked home by themselves.

Chasingsquirrels · 23/09/2020 18:13

Ds1 - I did but only because I was collecting younger sibling.

Ds2 - made his own way home from Easter of yr 4 (after I overrode objections from the school).

Codexdivinchi · 23/09/2020 18:13

Yes I did do and will do when my other dc get to that age. I was bullied in school and was terrorised walked home by them so for that reason alone I will continue to pick them up.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/09/2020 18:13

I did but I had a younger child at the school so it would have been pretty rude to ignore him.

Chickenitalia · 23/09/2020 18:14

No, mine walks home with friends. I’m there anyway collecting younger dc but have been told in no uncertain terms not to wait for her. The parents who drive wait in their cars along the road.

BikeRunSki · 23/09/2020 18:14

Y6 is middle school here, they all walk or bus home by themselves. Only the very rural kids get lifts. The feeder first schools encourage children to walk home alone from Y5 in preparation.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/09/2020 18:15

Yes but only because I'm collecting DD from the same school.

Whokilledthesucculent · 23/09/2020 18:15

No they walk home by themselves since starting y6 even though I'm collecting Y1 DS 10 mins after they finish. Normally see them along the way.

Monkeytapper · 23/09/2020 18:15

Mine stated walking home from half way through year 5

doctorhamster · 23/09/2020 18:31

Yes. It's a 20 minute walk home involving 2 main roads with no pedestrian crossings so I'm not happy for her to to do it on her own yet. Plus none of her friends come this way so it really would be on her own.

PhantomErik · 23/09/2020 18:43

Yes

Findahouse21 · 23/09/2020 18:45

At the moment all junior school parents are encouraged (but not insisted) to leave and meet children at the school gates.

HelplessProcrastinator · 23/09/2020 21:56

No DD walks home with her friends. She used to be super clingy but is growing in independence which I am encouraging. She’ll be making her own way to secondary next year so needs to get used to it.
