Early morning tummy troubles baby

Hi all

My 14 week old always seems to be uncomfortable and unsettled from 4/5am till he properly wakes up around 7am.

It’s definitely his tummy causing issues and he grunts and farts and pulls up his legs. He gets a formula bottle dream feed around 9pm and then 1-2 wake ups breast feeding in the night. He usually burps after all feeds.

Can I do anything to help him or is this normal?

Thank you

It's pretty normal, technically people of all ages sleep less deeply throught the night. I remember it seemed to get better the more mobile they got.

Is it after bottle feeding or breast feeding he's uncomfortable?

If it's after the bottle, try stopping the bottle and switching to breast.

If it's after breast, there's probably something you're eating that doesn't agree with him that's being passed on to him through your milk.

IME experience it's very normal and will pass with time. Even when my baby started sleeping through, she still tossed and turned a lot. Her sleep has gradually become more settled/sound over time, most obviously from about 8 months onward.

My 6 week old has this as well - nearly every day from 4am he gets really noisy grunting, straining etc. After waking up properly it stops until the next morning - he does have reflux and is quite gassy so was thinking it was from lying down for a few hours and the gas building up.
