13 month screams at sight of her shoes

hi everyone, my little one has been walking about 5-6 weeks now. About 1.5 weeks ago I brought her to get feet measured and as soon as they came near her to measure she freaked out crying. We managed to get a quick measure and picked little pre walkers as they didn't have shoes in her small size. We didn't even try them on she was screaming so much. At home if she sees them she runs and hides and starts crying!

Any tips? I really need her to wear the shoes as at the moment the ground is wet and can't be walking much outside and also the stones on the ground hurt her

My DS did the same at the same age. Turned out he thought that the shoes would stop him walking or tie him down in some way.(!?!). When they put them on him in the shoe shop, he stood still and cried.

Once he realised he could walk in them, he was fine.

We went for putting the shoes on him at home in spite of his protests, and then holding his hands and gently pulling him forwards so that he would take steps. Once he had taken a few steps in the shoes then he was fine and very happy.

Don't know whether this would be good for your DD or not, but thought I would mention it.

Do you also have wellies? Those can be popular with toddlers. Not always the ideal footwear but keeps feet dry (ish - puddle jumping can get a bit wet).

@Finkelbraun it seems to have worked! She got over it once I started her walking!

@nannynick I can't get shoes her size yet as she has tiny feet

Oh fantastic!

Sometimes I wonder how they get these strange ideas in their little heads 😂
