How do you celebrate a 5 year olds birthday at a time like this?

Hi folks, my little boy is turning 5 in a couple of weeks and I have made no plans yet. I have been holding off to see what we are/are not allowed to do according to the latest government advice.

Looking for suggestions on what to do, if you have celebrate a little ones birthday during lockdown what did you do to make it special?

Hire a bouncy castle for the garden ?

Make a cake and order some presents and decorations for home delivery

Visit to the zoo?
Picnic?
Trip to the beach?
National trust?
Anything like this will surely feel special after being at home.

Ask parents of children they're friends with to record a little happy birthday message and make a video of all their friends.

Yeah the zoo idea is a good shout. It has been a long time since we have gone anywhere. They also need people's support at a time like this as they are struggling.

DS is 4 next week and we have tickets to Knowsley Safari Park. You stay in your own car so no SD worries. Some of the indoor activities are closed so there is a 20% discount. He loves Andy's Safari Adventures too so win win!

My ds turned 5 during lockdown, when things were stricter. Im a single parent so it was just us.
He helped me bake a cake the day before - a huge one (in his eyes!) With 4 layers, in his choice of flavours. Then on the day we iced it and decorated it, again with his choices. He loved the activity and was so delighted and proud of it! We had a zoom call with family to sing happy birthday and blow out the candles.

I decorated the house when he was asleep, so when he woke up on his birthday it was all a big surprise.

Throughout the day we played a few traditional party games - amazing what you can do with just two of you! Pin the tail, a pinata, hide and seek .. 5 year olds mostly only care about themselves so are quite happy to play all these with just mum (and dad if he's there!)

We had a proper party tea. I ordered cardboard cake stands online, and used party plates and cups so it all felt a bit special. He chose some of the food (eg sausage rolls, party rings) and I filled it out with other nice bits and pieces.

And after all that excitement he was very happy to snuggle down and watch a movie with popcorn to finish off the day.

We both had a brilliant time! Of course now you could potentially do some social distanced meet up in a park or similar, but if not, don't despair!

I've got the same issue. My daughter is 5 next month.
I'm ordering a canister of helium lots of balloons and stands and themed decorations and will decorate when she's gone to bed the night before. They have so many choices on eBay for boys and girls so worth a look to see if something would interest him.
She has 2 sisters who will be here although they are 13 and 14 but we will play party games together and I'll make a party tea etc
I'm hoping all the decorations will make it feel extra special.
If it's sunny we will have tea in the garden like a picnic.
Nanny and grandad may come albeit socially distanced but both have health issues so as it stands now they wouldn't risk it but another month who knows.
I think at this age they are going to be happy with anything :-)
