omg, omg, O M G! dd just asked my opinion......

on boyfriends!

She's just started yr7 and turning 12 next week. So she says 'mummy?, what would you say if I told you a boy at school asked me out?'

So I said, 'well, I don't know really, (my baby!) Do you like him? Do you want to go out with him? (Panic, panic, panic!) She's not sure, just wanted my opinion she says. I'm thinking 'don't touch my baby, she's only 12!!!!'

She's only 12, right? Far too young to be thinking about boys, right?

Help, oh god, I'd give anything to be moaning about the terrible twos again!

You must have a great relationship with her if she talked to you about it. At 12 I would have died before talking to my mum.

I was just about to say the same thing! You are VERY LUCKY she spoke to you - great, make sure the open relationship continues because that's great she can talk to you about these things - better than going behind your back! I understand the panic but seriously, I don't think you need to worry [says looney who just has one 4 yr old boy of her own!)

Mo, remember when your DH came to pick you up for first date and I grilled him in the living room while you were getting ready!!!!

But you were 22, I figured you were old enough to go out with him!

Who is this boy? Who are his parents? Did either of us go out with his father? (sorry, inappropriate, but PMSL!!!).

Mo, we had this convo recently, sat her down and told her that her Grandad had saidshe was going in the cupboard under the stairs when this came up, and she could come out when she was 35

No had a very serious convo, as her mother had her at 15, her Grandmother had her uncle at 14, and her Great grandmother had her gran at 14 (hasten to add that DGD is sons child, and was not please when she was born 4 days passed his 17th birthday)

I had DS at 18 and although it worked out for me, It IS NOT something I want for her.

Well I'm hoping that all the hundred of tales that me & Kbear tell her about our youth, will keep her single for as long as possible! We had an absolute blast with our girlfriends and I hope she's the same. Its looking good so far! DH will, of course, remain completely in the dark about this one for the time being!

What does she mean by boyfriend?

DS had a GF at 11

They went to pictures,

we took them both swimming {along with GF little sister being a gooseberry!!!}

GF came round to our house to cook dinner for them both - they both love cooking,

DS went round to her house to do cooking as well

It was very innocent

They have broken up now but are still friends

Loads of them had GF and BF in year 6 into year 7

He is now in year 8 and doesn't have an actual GF but has friends that are girls iyswim

He is in a boys school so his friends that are in mixed school are probably different

I had my first snog at 12 at a party

Then I had my second snog, and first boyfriend at 12 .. that was when I realised that first snog hadn't been right because he tried to use his tongue and I said no .. I realised this was wrong when a 13 year old 'cool' girl came up to me in the bathroom and asked me why I didn't use tongues with Karl ... I was so flustered and embarrassed I made up some stupid story about an ex boyfriend and that was how he kissed

the truly weird thing is I am now 40, have had numerous shags, children .. and yet this very memory still brings me out in hives of embarrassment

yeah, ask what she thinks going out will involve - some of them just hold hands, sit together at lunch & walk home etc. others are a little mre 'hands on'. does she know what her friends do if they have a boyfriend?

See now you have to worry, is he the school geek or the school hunk or somewhere in between? It will matter you know, there is heaps of respect to be had if the school hunk fancies you but if it's the school geek or the school freaky weirdo it's a different matter

Ah, those were the days... when all the freaky weirdos asked me out....

but I had to wait until I was 15 before anyone realised I was alive.

so that's progress ....

What did her mates say about it?

When they were in year 6 there was pressure in the girls

Who had a BF and who didn't

So is she being pressured into thinking she should have a BF ???

By either the boy concerned or by the other girls making her think she SHOULD have a BF

Y'see, when I was about that age and asked my mum about boys she said I was very silly and that only silly girls are interested in boys at that age and she'd be very cross if she heard any more about it.

So, obviously I stopped thinking about boys, joined a convent and never made a single duff decision when it came to the opposite sex for as long as I have lived.

Oh I have all this to look forward to. DD is 8 and just started year 4 in her new school. She came home last week and told me that M was her boyfriend. As you can imagine I had to peel myself off the floor (and reach for a paper bag!!). I asked her what this meant and she said they met each other in the playground at playtime and that they loved each other. Awwwww!

I possibly would have been ok about a yr 6 bf, because I knew all the children at her primary school. This school is a different matter! I know nothing! He might be from the really scummy end of town, with no respect for anyone, who knows!

Well, the conversation ended lightly enough. I didn't say yes or no, so its up to her I guess. She's a sensible girl, with good values & morals (so far!). It was just a bit of a shock. I've only just got over the fact that she's a big girl at really big school fgs! These pre-teenage milestones are far harder than toddlers, I can tell you!
