12 week old fussy on breast during day

Exactly that really. My 12 week old has never had a great latch. I've always struggled to get him to open his mouth wider. During the day he always seems to fuss on the boob, I can hear him smacking his lips and swallowing air. This doesn't seem to be a problem at night. He seems much more relaxed and has a better feed, draining both boobs. During the day he snack feeds and it never really feels like he's getting a good amount of milk because of all the fussing. I've tried changing the latch and burping more. Any advice??

He also has really bad smelly farts!! Not sure if that's linked in any way?

Our 17 week old is exactly the same. Screaming and wailing in feeds during the day, feeds like a dream at night. No idea what to do.

Have you tried rocking and feeding? With some rhythmic back/bottom patting? Both mine were fussy and I used to lull them into a bit of a daze before latching. I also insisted on a rocking chair with dc2 and it's been a lifesaver - much easier to get him to stay latched nicely if I rock while feeding. You could also try different positions- side-lying worked a treat with dc1 (although not too helpful when you're out!) and rugby hold can be good to contain any thrashing.

Thanks both. It's weird isn't it! Maybe he's too distracted during the day. I'll try and feed him in a quiet room and get rocking him at the same time. Thankfully he's gaining weight fine so no concerns with how much milk he's getting.
