Finding my little girls behaviour a real struggle for me to deal with. I’ve been struggling with my mental health for 2 1/2 years. I’ve got Borderline personality disorder and struggle with depression and anxiety. Her teachers have been really helpful finding ways to try and help me deal with her better at home etc and we also have a family support worker. My little girl has seen my self harm. I didn’t know what to tell her. Should I mention this to her teacher tomorrow? As she is already receiving emotional support at school for other issues and don’t want it to effect her. If I did would her teachers have to do anything about / tell anyone etc about me self harming?

Do you have support for yourself?

I think it’s okay to disclose your SH to your daughter’s teacher, I don’t know whether they would be obliged to pass this information on (do you have a teacher friend you could ask this question to? If not you could as the Staffroom board here on MN). I think if they did have to pass the information on it would be in the interest of keeping your daughter and you supported not in the interest of any sort of being punished sort of thing.

My guess would be it is probably more helpful to let the teacher know, in case your daughter mentions it, that way everyone knows it is safe to talk about and doesn’t need to be kept a secret IYSWIM.

I have a psychiatrist I see once a month and see our family support worker once a week.

No don’t have anyone to ask, posted it’s this morning in the staffroom chat Nobody has replied.

I just worry.
