Would you take newborn to doctor with a cold?

Just that really. 5wk old has caught a cold/bit of s cough from toddler DD. Newborn very congested and a few times today has had big blobs of yellow-green snot appear out of his nostrils (sorry gross i know).
Feeding well, lots of wet and dirty nappies but very unhappy and crying lots.
Should I take him to the doctor to get his his chest listened to etc?

OH said that as the snot is yellow green this means it is an infection???

No, wouldn’t take to GP unless temperature or not feeding.

Not for a cold, no

A cold can quickly become bronchiolitis in a baby. Any question over breathing, then yes.

Gettingonabitnow · 03/03/2020 21:00

If they get a cough too then yes - my DD had those symptoms plus a cough and we left it and left it and it was bronchiolitis and she ended up in hospital.

AdriannaP · 03/03/2020 21:01

No - call first. Baby can get much sicker waiting around there

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 03/03/2020 21:02

I did, he was 3 weeks old, the GP phoned an ambulance as it was bronchiolitis and he was very poorly.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 03/03/2020 21:35

It's occasional coughing, more just very snotty. Completely mixed bag of replies (thankyou for your replies by the way) don't know what to do?!

Have a look on the nhs website and familiarise yourself with the signs of bronchiolitis and when that may need checking.

But ultimately at 5 weeks old if your concerned then get her checked over.

NelliePig · 03/03/2020 21:50

Could you call 111 and get a professional opinion on whether baby needs to be seen?
I find them very good for things like this, plus they tell you what to watch for and are quite helpful :) x

TeethingAgain · 04/03/2020 16:43

I probably would because I'd want the GP to listen to their chest. Does he have a temperature? At five weeks I would get them seen

Magpiefeather · 04/03/2020 16:50

Hmm I’d wait and see if it is improving. If I felt it was getting worse and cough was worrying me I’d go get chest listened to. If the snottiness is bad you can get those little sucking tube things so you can suck the snot out of baby’s nose without actually having to, er, suck the snot out of baby’s nose (if that made any sense at all).

I hope your baby feels better soon

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 04/03/2020 17:21

No temperature and feeding lots
(In fact never happy unless he has a boob)
His nose isnt streaming or anything just every now and then has a big blob of snot. Has a very occasional cough.
