Choosing sex of baby

Did anyone follow any method in an attempt to influence the sex of their baby?

A friend of mine is convinced the shettles method gave her a girl.

I don't buy into any of the old wives tales and when I next TTC whatever will be will be, but I am curious as to who attempted to influence their outcome!

I had 2 dd's a year apart after only having sex on day 23 of a 28 day cycle each time .. After lots of boys I feel more than a coincidence...

kjhkj · 11/12/2019 13:55

50 percent of people who buy into the old wives tales will end up getting their desired result...

Serabi · 11/12/2019 13:56

I agree @kjhkj but I'm keen to hear who attempted it too!

@Winterdaysarehere how many boys did you have before your two girls?

No not hi v a woman or man does will change the sex of the child they conceive. The man's sperm determines it but there is nothing you can do to change which sperm fertilises the egg.

Winterdaysarehere · 11/12/2019 14:50

A dd then 6 boys in a row!!

Serabi · 11/12/2019 17:59

@Winterdaysarehere so you aimed for two girls then 6 boys? I'm confused?!

A dd , 6 ds's, 2 dd's...
Wasn't aiming for 2 girls.
They are 13+14 and wouldn't wish them on anyone right now!!

Concieved my DD by DTD day of ovulation and conceived DS by DTD the night before, apparently it should have been the other way round... its a load of rubbish basically!

Its nothing to do with boy/girl sperm one being faster than the other etc, a woman's body naturally kills of millions of the sperm before they can even get to the egg, 1 sperm could get to the egg as fast as 30 mins whilst others can take days, then once there is 1 in there the egg changes to create a barrier so its just luck if you get what you want!!

I hand on heart thought I would have only girls but at 6 weeks with my second I knew he was a boy 🤷🏻‍♀️ you never know what your going to get ... unless your Kim Kardashian 🤪

IgnoranceIsStrength · 11/12/2019 18:50

It is impossible to influence this. What a load of rubbish. The sperm carries the sex gene for either a boy or girl and there is nothing that can change that.

Pitapotamus · 11/12/2019 18:53

I figure that if timing or any of the other things people do could influence the sex of a baby with any reliability then surely girl / boy twins would be a really rare occurrence and most non identical twins would be same sex.

I’m still interested because I’m going to try everything to get a girl next time after three boys! Tried the shettles method with dc three to get a girl and got a boy!

Twickerhun · 11/12/2019 18:54

I had ivf one girl and one boy from eggs collected and fertilised on the same day the theory is a load of bollocks

firstimemamma · 11/12/2019 19:01

The 2 main ways of trying to control the sex of the child - shettles and I can't remember the name of the other one - both completely contradict each other. One says sex right near ovulation leads to a girl and the other says this will lead to a boy.

I think this tells you all you need to know about whether there is a grain of truth in either!

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2019 19:01

A friend did because they wanted a boy. They have 4 daughters.

Serabi · 11/12/2019 19:25

The whole thing makes me a bit sad to be honest. Imagine trying so hard month after month to conceive a particular sex only to be disappointed

OP posts:
HJWT · 11/12/2019 21:01

@Serabi I don't think there is anything wrong with being disappointed, we are all human and have emotions. Its whether you swiftly move on from those emotions and appreciate the fact your pregnant to begin with 😄

With my son I felt disappointed my daughter would never have a sister, but then I remembered my DH and SIL have a great relationship so I moved on from it quickly!

Now if I had a 3rd id be happy with either because I love both my DC so much but id be disappointed for which one that didn't get a brother or sister 🤣

Winterdaysarehere · 11/12/2019 21:49

To clarify I was never less than 100%thrilled with every ds!!
I do know of a woman who discharged herself and left another ds in there....
